Two year's ago my brother and I were bank fishing on the Yadkin River and it was a beautiful day after a week of heavy rain, river was swift, boaters taking their turn to launch their boats. One guy backed onto the ramp and removing tie downs, plug checking etc when a couple couldn't wait their turn, backed into the river boat and truck and drowned both as we stood there in shock. This isn't the first time I have witnessed boat launchers bad manners turn tragically. So remember this when you're about to launch a boat.. take the time to do so safely. Check your plugs, prime your fuel, check your hitches and chain's and have a plan B if thing's go wrong.

if i might add:

do all the prep and checks BEFORE your turn on the ramp; most places have a parking area for this purpose

These guy's were backing. Pulled up to line the boat with underwear ramp when he crossed them, stomped the gas underwater.

I 100%agree Smitty. Most here have a "Rigging Area ", and that's where you do all your prep, other than the final unhooking at the water's edge. It's just plain ignorance to make other, prepared, people, wait for you. In the case of no designated area, I'll pull into a parking spot and do it there. I'm afraid it's only gonna get worse as the "Me Me Me "generations grow old enough to drive.

Then you have the ones that put the boat in, load it up with gear afterwards at the ramp. Leave it sit there followed by driving the trailer to the parking spot, and oh yea got to take a crap while they are in the parking lot.

#MeMeMeMe where is my head. No comment!!!!

One of the things that gets me is they have cleats on the boat ramp side of the dock. They tie up there and you cant use that lane to put in.

Most of ours only have enough water on the ramp side, so I can't complain about that. Especially since I'm usually alone, and have to leave the boat there to go park. I tried pulling it up on the pavement once, and the wind and waves spun the boat around and broke off my transducer, by the time I got back to the boat.

No shortage of stupidity at the big public launches around here as well. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy the all electric lakes. Never an issue at the launch. Rarely see other boats. Mostly yakers.

hey fred...
theres some interesting u tube videos about solo launching
saw a real funny one; guy all ready to launch and backs in and floats the boat and drives to park. boats bout 50yds from the dock and some guys around having a good chuckle. guy walks to the end of the dock and starts to whistle for his boat. now they're really having a chuckle. he whistles again and the trolling motor drops in the water and the boat slowly returns to the dock. the guy has a remote hidden his pocket to work the troller. what a hoot

Yeah Smitty, that's the Minn Kota Ulterra with auto stow and deploy. I've seen the commercial, and got to see it in real life 2 yrs ago. I was out on Lake McDonough and I was heading for the ramp to call it a day. There was a couple launching a Z-17 Nitro, and I saw the wife get in the boat, and then the husband backs the boat in. As the boat drifted away from the dock, I saw that she was in the passengers seat. As he walked back from the parking lot, he hit the button and the Ulterra dropped into the water, and brought the boat around in a big circle. I was tying up to the dock and talked with him for a minute, then he walked to the end of the dock and stepped into his boat as it came by. VERY COOL! That's when I decided that my next boat should have one.

Smithy, I can laugh at myself, so Y'all can to. That happened to me in the Keys. My wife, MIL, SIL, BIL Were in the truck when this happened. I went to the end of the dock to see my boat floating 20 yards away. My BIL asked if he could help and I said I got it. That's when it floated away. That was 20 years ago and I still hear about it.
