I have never cleaned a cork handle. It never occurred to me they needed cleaning. If I had thought to do that, I would have washed my hands before using each time, and I never did. Just Sayin...RJS

Well, Cam, you can do a couple of things. If it is new, you can put one coat of U- 40 cork seal (Mud Hole) on it and it will be good forever, just wash it off with dish soap and a washcloth when it gets dirty If it is used and dirty, use warm water, dish soap, and a brush, get it as clean as you can, and let it dry completely. Then put one coat of U -40 cork seal on it and you are good forever.
That's what I do, what do you do?

Hi Cam. I got a bug n decided to do mine. I used fine sandpaper on them. Damp rag to get dust off. Left them dry good. Then applied U-40 cork sealant. A little bit goes a long way. I'd one first to see how it we would feel. Wet hands n not slick. Personal preference like anything. Fish slime n scent goop made some handles sorta tacky. Did 2 new rods some well used ones. Maybe I was just bored๐

That's what I hear as well Cam, but I haven't tried it yet. I think Grizz told me about them.

Some of my handleโs are oil soaked from using tuna soaked shoepeg corn before I switched to water base. Do ya think it will work, cleaning those up??๐on
I have never cleaned a rod handle except to flick some fish scales off. A good rod deserves to have a well-stained handle showing years of catching fish and casting. Iโve had cork need some repair work but cleaning them is not something I do. I bet many of the readers will have fished far harder than I and have cork that really could use some cleaning. But mine have never gotten to that point.
