Catfish in Monroe, MI.
For those who are familiar with this very popular location, the fishing piers near the DTE Energy/Monroe plant opened today. This is a very popular location off of Front St. just in front of the DTE plant entrance.
The spot opened today and the anglers were anxiously waiting when the gate opened at 4:00AM.
The catfish, for which this spot is most commonly known, were good and hungry as they haven't enjoyed a good smorgasbord (shrimp and worms) since early December. The limit on catfish in Michigan is 12 per person, per day, and reports are that people were getting their limits in about 2 hours. Unfortunately, no word on the sizes yet, but I expect no one was disappointed!
These pics are from last summer. I hope to get out there before weeks end!
Wow! That's some nice fishing results from your previous season! Thanks for posting, and have a terrific season ahead!
Those are nice fish. What bait do you use? I've never fished for catfish.

Those are the perfect size. Nice job and good luck out there.
Was there yesterday and was a good day gone post picture later
Worms and medium-sized, raw shrimp.
Generally, they seem to like shrimp earlier (before 9:00am) then they seem to prefer worms.
I will sometimes use both on the same hook.
I made it out yesterday, hooks in the water about 8:15AM.
It was surprising slow. We got a couple on worms then by 10:00, they died off.
Got the first fish, (either a dogfish or a carp) in about 5 minutes.
The second fish soon after was a (I think everyone calls them) shag. Looks like a silver bass, but not as shiny.
These fish are everywhere, constantly jumping all over the place. But, they never bite any type of bait.
I was surprised to hook him on his stomach just ahead of its tail.
My partner said these are execellent for cut-bait.
So eventually, we cut him up and used it as bait.
Surprisingly, the catfish seem to love them. Every catfish caught after that was on the cut-bait.
Got 7 or 8 cats in total.
Not bad, they're all prime size and bigger.
Guess I'll have to get out then before sunrise next time. Friends had their 10/day limit before sunrise a few days ago.

We have a place like this on High Rock lake here in NC but the semerged boulders and tree's have sunk many boat's so I fish up river and still catch plenty. My favorite fish, breaded and deep fried delicious!
My first big on opening day caught with worm
