What is your opinion on your guide fishing while you are? The question was asked of me when I returned from a trip.

Welcome to the Forum, Fishman. Some are very good, some o.k., and some very bad. Do some research. I have had them all.

Thanks for responding fly Guy. Actually, I was asking if you think a guide should fish with you while you are fishing. The question I was asked is why are they fishing, when you pay them to guide you.

My son just went on a guided spoonbill trip yesterday with three other guys to Tulsa, Ok. and got 20+ between them. Here’s some pics of them; first 3 are my son. I am sooo jealous!

If the guide is fishing to help you reach your limit, or so you have something to take home with you, that may be okay. But if he is fishing and not attending to your needs that is completely wrong. It is his job to put you on the fish!

A good guide can do both. And if he hooks up, he’ll hand off the pole to someone who might not be catching, to experience the fight…🐟on

They released them.
My son said you CAN eat them if you cut out the red meat first, but he doesn’t. They just weigh and take pics and let ‘em go. The guide he went with, has the world record of 164 lbs. caught out of that same lake. Their biggest yesterday was 106 lbs.

Those are some big, fat fish!! What lake was this on? I've never seen those fish.

I agree with flyguy. The one I used last year was disappointing. Ask around word of mouth is probably the best way to find one

I feel a lot of people are visual and can learn a lot from just watching a good guide. When I started bass fishing a few years ago I use to just rent a boat and go fishing. If I caught 1-2 fish it was a good day. Then I went with a guide to learn about bass fishing. Between us we caught 35 fish that day. Next time I went by myself, I caught about 30 fish.

Remember when you were a kid and your dad showed you how to throw a football or baseball? Could you have done that without a demonstration or playing catch with him?

When I go to a fishing hole that I haven't been to before i usually go to local tackle shops and ask questions. Not just one shop but at least 2 or 3, you can learn a lot of info and guide yourself.
