Flashers ahead of the lure are used on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior for Salmon. Would they also be effective for Lake Trout on the lakes further north in Canada?
I don’t see why they wouldn’t…assuming you are trolling?
Yes, flashers are popular in Canada. I've used them so far north that
there were musk ox on the shoreline! In fact, an 11" colorful flasher with a
large hook on it, no lure attached, is effective on Lake Athabasca and probably
other lake trout lakes, as well.
Some fishermen use flashers under a float on the Missouri reservoirs on the line above a large live minnow. The minnow keeps the flasher moving and getting the big Northerns attention ! They fish around points. Buddy of mine saw that and thought the guys doing it were crazy but they had the fish to prove it worked !
We have caught plenty of them on purple or white plastic worms rigged Texas style with a fairly heavy sinker. Fishing in Northern Ontario. We can see them on the depth finder and jig the worms down to them.
