I have a 7’ med/heavy Ugly Stik catfish rod with an Okuma Avenger 6000, I’m going after Channel catfish that are usually under 10lbs but I never know when a monster will find it, anyway I’m planning on spooling up with 15lb green mono berkley big game as my main line, and probably 30lb berkley big game clear mono as my leader, is this a good setup?

Really. Where you fishing? Lake or stream? I wouldn't use mono. I'd use braid for the main line. I like PowerPro. 30 pound, or higher. You don't need a leader for cats, they're not line shy, but if you want a leader get you some 80 or 100 pound test Dacron. You ain't finesse fishing. Big channel cats are bruisers. You need to overpower em.

Spirit it's not a real Stager that posted it was a question that the Stage posted which it does once and a while to seed conversation look at the fine print under the post there's a disclaimer that tells the story also look at the number of post(53,000+) that will give you a clue. When ever you see the post saying FS DIGEST they are the same 🇺🇸😀👍

I use 2 9' ugly stik GX2's medium action for catfish, freshwater drum (sheep head), late season steelhead & in general any type of fishing where I need to muscle the fish in. They are paired with 2 diawa rd 2500h-ab reels. Both rods are setup with 20# braid & there's no leader.

I went with #20 braid simply because I fish a lot of areas with debris/stump fields/sunken trees/ETC. The #20 test braid will snap before the rod or reel fails. The gx2 rod's max line rating is 20 #. Stepping up to30# or higher is extremely hard on the rod.

Reed the specs on the side of the rod, it will tell you the min/max line rtings.
