I think I have some seal bombs lying around somewhere. I might just start using them if Ranger keeps skunking me.

What you fishing for? I've fished the surf over there, but never the bay. Lots of surf perch. Sand crabs, which you can easily harvest yourself. Want to throw a lure? Luckycraft surf pointer.

Welcome to the Forum. Best bet is just ask the bait shop but shrimp or prawns work well, and if you can eat them if you get hungry...lol

I would give Gulp Alive 4 inch chartreuse mullet on one hook and a 2 inch gulp Alive on a lower hook. I would fish it just like I fish a Texas rigged worm, That means fish it as slow as you think you can stand, then twice as slow. Like I said in an earlier post, I like to keep changing up until I find what works. If I was going to fish real bait, I would dig some clams and live sand worms. If I was to fish squid, I would cut it into triangular strips 1/2x2" and 1x4 or 5" and hook it in the wide end so the strip could flap in and current or when you move it. If you use the bigger strips, have gear big enough to handle a ling or skate. A common mistake when fishing jetties is casting out to far. The fish are often within a foot or two of the rocks or often in the rocks. Some people just use a long cane pole and dabble their bait in the open holes between rocks where fishing on the jetty is permitted. This is a general jetty response. I have not been to Humboldt Bay in years, so I do not remember the layout there. Just take what you can from this for your situation and put the rest in the memory bank for another time. Good luck
