Arrived at Guasti Regional Park this morning at 7:50 and no line out the gate. strange, 1st red flag.
Matter of fact I drove straight in to pay my gate fee.
After I unloaded and got my rods in the water i noticed very few people for 1st day of derby and 1598 lbs stocked yesterday. 2nd red flag.
Nobody was getting bites, much less catching any fish.
I walked along shore to rest room and noticed lots of dead trout along the shore and floating on the waters edge.
Big trout just belly up, some half eaten and others looked still kinda fresh. weird, and scary and smelly!
I checked the Facebook fishing pages and saw some fishermen left and got refunded their money.
After 2 hours I decided I had enough and packed up , went to gate and filled out form for refund.
Went to Prado and landed a good sized Lightning trout to ease my discomfort. LOL. No rain even though I was prepared with rain jacked and boots. As we say in the hiking world "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing." Cheers and tight lines.
Tyvek looks like something very hungry is in the water. Never saw a lightning trout around here nice pic. Welcome to FS ๐๐ฃ
Very sad about those trout going to waste, wonder what the cause was behind it?
Thanks for the heads up!

Good job Tyvek, recognising the futility of your first choice and changing location in time to save the day. Please let us know if you find out the cause of the kill.
Congrats on the Lightening Trout, they are beautiful!
Iโm wondering also what could have caused that. one or two I could see,but the amount of distructsion is amazing. Something big was in there and hungry by the looks of it

Something in the lake acting like a coon in a cornfield, taking a bite then going to the next victim
Was it predation or a chemical fish kill then eaten by the cleanup squad.
Curious now. Please fill us in when you're able. Thanks.

Thatโs really sad to see such big fish lying dead like that. Had to be an eerie feeling to not see anyone fishing and all the dead fish. Sorry Tyvek.

Thanks for sharing Tyvek. Really sad to see! I'm from Ontario originally. Grew up off Euclid and the 60FWY. Use to fish Prado and Guasti a lot for trout and Cats. Good times and memories! Glad to see your day wasn't a complete bust! As already shared from other post, please let us know if you find out what the heck happened at Guasti. Been years since I moved from So Cal, but never seen anything like that. ๐ฏ
Call them Palomino trout in Pa. Never heard of lightning trout. Different names at different places.

DownD way they call them golden trout. I'm guessing they're all the same fish.
