Saw a guy today with an umbrella shaped thingie on his line about 8 inches up the line. Said it gave the lure more action. Anybody know what it is? does it work?

That sounds like what Oz showed. I saw it demonstrated at a fishing show. The lure looks pretty but keep in mind even if it holds 8 or so hooks, you can only put on as many hooks as your state allows in the water at one time.

Nope. Bout a Nickle diameter. Plastic. Like a mushroom with the line through it.

The line dancer is a hook that mounts on your rod. You put your line in the hook after casting. It changes the speed of your retrive with every revolution of the rotor/bail. Even if you crank at a steady speed, when the bail rotates down , the line speeds up and when the bail comes up, the line slows down. If you have a 5:1 ratio, your lure will speed up and slow down 5 times each, with each full turn of the handle. When you get a bite, or are ready to cast again, unhook the line from the hook. You can make one with some soft wire, taped to your rod.
Oh yeah, it only works with spinning reels.

I agree but! Not what I described. Nickle diameter. Plastic. Like a mushroom with the line through it.

Someone posted something about them a year or so ago. I watched a video about them. I was gonna make one but didn't like the idea of the hook near the line while it flies off the spool during the cast.

I wonder if the idea came from a beer bottle cap?
