They are on sale at Sportsman’s Guide for $35 ($49 at Cabela’s). If you are a Club member they are $32. Now…I don’t NEED any, but my GAS is kicking in and tempts me to upgrade a few of my old Garcia Cardinals…
I put my hands on one last weekend and it felt pretty smooth for the money.
Any opinions?

I’m just thinking 🤔 you get what you pay for. I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ what your budget is for fishing reels but I think the price is very low
And I wonder where they are made and what are they made of? They may be good for a kids reel to catch blue gills
But i think I would add a few more dollars and get something that will last

But this is just my opinion. And we know everyone has one. Opinion

I am a fan of Pflueger and own 1 President and 3 sizes of the Trion model. I've had 2 of the small Trions on my UL trout rods with 6-8lb line for at least 10-15(20?) years, never a problem. A couple more of the medium sized ones are on trolling rods for the boat, no probs. The larger sized Trion is on a steelhead rod, love it. The President is new last season (was on sale for $39.99 at the local tackle shop and I too have G.A.S. !) and I was curious as to how much difference there was between the models, so I bought one in the 2500 size. Have it on an 8' trout/steelhead rod, and have only used it a couple of times, so not overly familiar with it yet (as in... have not landed a fish with it, yet), but I spooled it with 12lb NANOFIL with a flouro leader, and during the two hook-ups I have had, it performed just fine.
To be forthright, I don't really see much difference in the two models. The President "seems" a bit more "solid", but who knows ?, might just be that "new to me" feeling. I'm sure that I can expound further, when I have made a thousand or two more cast/retrieves with it.

In other words, I find them to be quite a good value, as adequate as any of my Okuma, Daiwa, and Shimano spinning reels that I have.

I should probably add that I don't believe in spending a bundle of money (like even $100-150+) on ANY reel (though I have several, that I bought used, that were in excess of that, at retail) simply because I am of the school of thought, that the rod and the line choice, along with skills of the user, are far more important. As long as the drag works sufficiently, and the retrieval is smooth....I am happy.
Especially happy..... when I out-fish, out-catch, a buddy using a combo that cost more than 3 of my combos combined !
(I particularly love it when I am fly-fishing with my less than $250 set-up, and out-fish the guy with the Sage and Abel, Rio line, etc. $1500+ set-up !)

All in all, good price point for what you get, go for it and good luck !

What ? Did you read that FLY 🪰 what he said about our fine Flyfishing equipment
With rods so sensitive you can feel the breeze from a butterfly 🦋 wing with drags on our highly machined reels made from forged air plane ✈️ aluminum strong enough to land a orca in high seas and casting lines strong enough to pull a cruise 🚢 ship to port Well !!! 😂😅🤣🥲😇

It’s not the price of your equipment it is the
Confidence you have in it

Thanks FoF, nice report. I admire those that can/do drop that kind of cash, but I am not one of them. I fish with Newbies, fools and Grandkids so I fear that an expensive combo in my boat (with my back turned) may end up as fishing structure after it falls overboard…

That’s when you throw them over board and
tell them NOT to come back up without it

I have used a smaller-sized Trion for panfish and non-whooper bass, walleyes etc and have had no problems.

They are great for Trout and panfish I have one also have the President and the Supreme. And I'm going buy the Sumpreme XT.
But I strongly believe that if you are going to do alot of Bass fishing spend the money they last longer the gears hold up longer.!!
I have learned from experience. Your reel take a lot of wear if you Bass fish alot. Their is a reason why the difference in the cost !!
Hope this helps you out.

I have two combos I bought off Groupon for like $17.00 a piece. They’re super cheap, obviously, but they’re great for giving friends who don’t have gear to use when I take them fishing. I’ve caught some decent trout, wiper, and even a catfish on them. Last year I decided to upgrade the reels on them. I went to Sportsmans Warehouse and bought one trion and a Shimano Sienna. They were both on sale for about thirty bucks. I think they’re about the same, both cast well and are pretty smooth, for thirty dollar reels. The only thing I don’t like about the Pflueger is the handle screws in and even though it has a nut on the other side, it’s always unscrewed and loosened itself up when I get it out of the truck.

I wonder if a small drop of Loctite would help you with that nut?

I’ve thought about that. May just have to give it a try.

I have 1/2 dozen Presidents and are very impressed with them, my only concerns are with fish over 15#, but that probably won’t be a problem 😂
