WOW!! Well I am one lucky guy. Got notified today I drew a bear permit. Only 5 permits in this area and last year there were over 1000 people that applied for the area. Hunt is April 2 till May 30 this year. Neighbors run their sheep in this area and lose from 75 - 100 head to the bears every year. They have not been able to get a permit or any help from the Division of Wildlife. I will do my best to help cut their loss.

Awesome! That’s a bucket lister for me. Bear population in Ohio is so low we don’t have a season. Any out of state Hunt is big $$$$ but one day I’m making it happen.

Could your rancher friends hire guys with dogs to run the bears out of the area like they do mountain lions? Just a thought? I know nothing on the subject.

Like getting hit with a brick to get someone's attention, these "administrators" need to have a sheep ranch and watch their bottom lines go south. Only school that will teach them about reality.

Sausage and jerky and make a rug out of the hide. They are usually fairly lean by spring after hibernation. Fall bears are greasy- worse than slop hogs.

Speaking of hogs, bears are worse carriers of Trichinosis than swine. Be careful, be safe and cook it well.

Ex Son-in-law shot his first bear in Idaho and insisted we eat some that night. Told him we just make sausage and jerky but he insisted. After cooking it to a point of no return (xtra well done) by the time he took the second bite he threw it in n the fire and started gnawing on the pan which he said was much better!! He then understood sausage and jerky.

They have the big white guard dogs but some sheep always seem to stray off a ways and end up as dinner. The bears kill them, cover them with dirt and branches, them come back in a week or two and feast on the maggot ridden carcass. Bears will hide up/tree up and take the dogs into the nastiest brushyest crap but don’t leave the area. Good thought though.
