The striped maple leaf looks right but the seed pod doesn't match
The leaves are much smaller
than maple leaves, which I am
very familiar with (sugar maples), though I'm not sure about striped maples, and their overall shape doesn't match !
Spirit says that the so-called
'tulip tree' is a species of poplar,
and he may be right, but I don't remember ever seeing such color
or flowers on one back home !
The cottonwoods we have here have leaves that look more like a willow. Long and thin and pointed. In fact I think cottonwoods are a type of willow?

It's not cottonwood
Wish I knew, which is why I posed
this question - other than the ones
I'm familiar with, I don't really know much about trees in general !

I know a lot of trees but can't figure out that one

I you want to know for sure. Go to a conservation office.
It isn't a life or death question !
I was just curious and wondered
if any of you folk would know !
Next library trip, I'll do a little
digging and figure it out, but
thanks to everyone for their input !
Look up the Kurrajong Bottle Tree from Australia (it is pretty much close 😉)
I guess we need to know if it flowers in the Spring?

Hey, OJ ! Never heard about that
one, but like I said - "I'm no botanist"!
The seed-pods look right, but the leaves don't seem to match - these look more like spearmint-shaped, while mine looks vaguely like a
smaller maple leaf ! If I try to zoom
in too close on my phone, it just
gets blurry and harder to identify !
This wasn't a quiz, folks ! Was just trying to figure out what it is that's growing just outside my door, as
I've never seen the like of it before !
I guess I's library time - gonna have
to do some research ! Thanks again everyone for your input !

I'd be willing to bet it's not a native American, or at least not native to the West. I've got an Audobon Society field guide to trees of the west, and I can't find those leaves in there anywhere. The best guide for trees and plants that I've seen is the one mentioned above - the app for the phone. Just take a picture with your phone and it tells you what it is. I tried taking a picture of the leaf you posted, but it didn't care for a picture of a picture.

No clue A. Looks very close to catalpa or mulberry, but no idea what those berries (?) could be.
Not Catalpa, leaves are wrong.

The seed pods would be over a foot long, too!

The pods don't have a Fosters label on em
