In response to W.Va. Mike's 'hot dog' query -
They say that 'happiness is a warm puppy' - I'll take two, please !
What goes on a hot dog ? I grew
up with being served them topped with sweet relish, French's yellow mustard, a dash of celery salt and either finely chopped red onion or
just a sprinkling of onion powder
if no fresh onion was available !
Also like chili dogs on occasion -
if I have some home-made chili
I'll use it, but mostly it's either the Hormel or Armour brand hot dog
chili with mustard and onions added !

Sounds like you met the same people that showed me how to eat hot dogs Big. đź‘Ť
Grew up with them served as described, with one exception -
my youngest brother ! With him
it was Ketchup !?! Nobody in the
family could figure out that oddity !
At most outings on my dad's side
they were served the same way, so
I can only surmise that he learned
it at home the same way as well !
Who knows ? Could be a family tradition !
He was very fussy about them,
too ! When he would come back
to N.H. (from Florida) for the
summer, he would always buy
a case of his favorite local brand, freeze them and take them back
to Florida - his only complaint
about living there was that he
could never find any decent
hot dogs nearby !

Mustard chopped onion and topped with chile. Hamburger was always made with mustard pickles lettuce and tomatoes now you have to make sure you ask for them other wise no telling what you’ll get. Most places make with mayonnaise, never have liked it.

I'm with you on the burgers, but
I like mine plain (cheese/thin slice
of red onion/ketchup/salt and
pepper) ! If I go to a fast-food joint
for a burger, I always tell them to
hold the mayo - if I see mayo on my burger, there's a good chance the server may end up wearing it !
'No' means NO !
That said, there's one food chain
that makes GREAT burgers, although they're technically NOT considered
to be 'fast food' ! If you have a
Culver's near you, I strongly recommend them over ANY fast
food place - also, they serve
walleye as well as cod during Lent,
and I'll be going there for the
walleye again soon !

Come on now hormel? Red is what we use. I tried green and they looked different but were pretty good.

Never had chili burgers, but I believe the topic started with 'what do you like on your hot dog' !
If I have some home-made chili
handy, I'll use it - otherwise I'll just
pick up a small can of either the Hormel's or Armour brand 'hot dog chili topping' !
Any green chili I've ever had was
more like a spicy 'pork stew' with
the 'hot' Hatch chilies from N.M. -
not exactly what I'd consider a
'hot dog' topping, but to each
his own preference !

Mustard is for hot dogs, hamburgers get catsup

hi frank
lots of funny responses to your chile references. most think of old fashioned tx red chile stew. most folks dont understand nm red/green. i lived in albuquerque bout 20yrs so i get it. used to love red. my wife of 40yrs grew up on the "hill"; los alamos [mostly gringos] and she didnt like red. she even makes posole with green. and its still pretty good. manomanoman do i ever miss blakes. only in nm. when i visit my kids in tx i always make at least one visit to whataburger but cant beat lotaburger. also bring back a suitcase full of green. gettin expensive by mail

EXACTLY ! Someone (outside of
the family) should have told my
kid brother that years ago ! He
was the only oddball (in that
respect) out of six kids and three adults !
