Boiling sand crabs for bait to use later?

Has anybody heard about gathering sand crabs and boiling and freezing them to use for another surf fishing outing. I’ve read that they turn an orange red and that mimics the sand crabs with eggs which helps attract fish.

Cheers!

I have heard of this from another forum, so I guess it's true. But I heard they turn pink.

With sand fleas in Florida they blanch them then freeze them. This should work for sand crabs too. Don't know if they will float.

Go down to PREPARING SAND FLEAS FOR STORAGE.

I never had much confidence in cooked bait . If you want them red, dye them and freeze them. Another tip is when you go to catch them, do it near the full moon and more of them will be soft shelled.

One man’s sand flee is another man’s sand crab.

How exactly do you catch or harvest sand crabs (sand fleas)? I do surf fish but have never used these as bait. I'm very interested in learning about how, when, and where...

I like the idea of dyeing and then freezing.
