I would like to learn about how to actually catch a fish. I have been fishing since I was a kid but I would really like to know more about bait, Lures, different spots in the lake, do I need a boat?

Welcome to the Forum, Suzanne. A boat would sure help, do you know anyone with a boat who knows how to fish?
I don’t I might buy a small one or I can rent one at the lake.
I fished Patagonia for many, many years before moving to OKC. Unless things have changed, you should be able to walk along the shore from the marina to the dam. Take a pole, bobber and bucket of worms and catch some bluegill. If you can go during the week, the marina basin usually will hold stocked trout & some crappie. Bass were hard to catch, at least for me, but I caught some big ones in the north cove from my boat. Good luck & tight lines.

They have boats to rent at the lake. there are also several good spots close to the parking areas from which to shore fish. the old school bobber with a worm or live minnow should get you something, if there's anything there. if you go to the Arizona Fish and Game website web site there should be tips on what's biting down there.
I would also ask the people that do the boat rentals, or a local bait and tackle store, since their livelihood depends on people coming back to catch more fish.

Shoe peg corn can be a good bait as well as worms,I know the trout at Rose lake on Mount Lemmon love the corn

caught on? what part of lake?
In the north cove there is a big rock formation with vertical crevices. The bass will get in the crevices and wait for something to come by or fall from above. I was probably pitching an unweighted Senko or lizard. It was 10 years ago. The other good spot is the grassy point on the right going into the north cove. The reeds will hold fish as well. These spots all require a boat. On foot I would try the dam if the water is down and it is safe. Now you know all my secrets. Remember to catch & release!
