Hi there! I joined about a year ago and would love to go freshwater fishing. I haven't been fishing in about two decades plus and was never an expert so I need to learn all I can.
A few months ago I was at Pro Bass to buy a new rod and reel. I asked the employee if bass was good to eat. He said that it is not palatable unless you were starving. I can't see catching fish, yanking them out of their habitat, possibly damaging them, then throwing them back in. Of course if they are undersized or over the limit, then Ok.
IMO, if you're going to hunt or fish then the best way to honor the hobby and the game you pursue is to fulfill God's will by doing what the original Biblical purpose of that animal was: to serve Mankind for sustenance.
I'd love to know the best places to fish for trout around the San Bernardino area.
Thanks to all anglers and hunters!

I join the others that like eating bass, bass don't have a heavy(real fishy )flavor but have good texture, suggest real light seasoning so you can decide for yourself and then season to your taste.
In the Asian market bass are a delicacy, can go for $20.00 lb.
Bring a couple of bass to your favorite Chinese restaurant (call them first)
and ask them to steam one for you, soy sauce, hot oil, ginger and scallions. Tell them that the second fish is for them. You’ll become instantly popular there.
Just add grits on the side.
Or do you northern hookers
Have grits.
I would check state and local fish departments before eating Largemouth or any fish from various waters. Some limit the amount you can eat in a week, others are banned from consumption. Sometimes it applies to all fish coming from a lake. Mercury being the biggest concern I found, and it may occur naturally.
But I agree about keeping bass I caught since it will promote healthier fisheries. That is the reason the Fish and Game place size and catch limits of fish.
The closest thing we have to grits is "Cream of Wheat"! But it aint grits! LOL
It would have to be good sized though, right? At least five lbs+?

I’ve been told that it depends on the quality of the water they come out of but I’ve never eaten a bass I didn’t like!!
Largemouth bass and smallmouth are very good to eat. I cannot even imagen anyone at Bass Pro telling you bass is not palatable. Stripers are ok but don't seem to be as tasty as small and large mouth. Striped bass are more for sport and normally catch and release, I don't know about black bass. Peacock bass in South America are good also. Now if you are fishing in some neighborhood lakes (normally there are signs.), the water is treated w/chemicals and it is not safe to eat fish caught from such places.

Welcome to the Stage
Yes they are good 👍 to eat but they are a sport fish also so alot of people release them and eat catfish or perch or walleye
Try blackened. Premixed blackened seasonings are available in the spices isle. I use olive oil instead of butter which is a little healthier.
