How long do you wait?

How long do you stay with a lure that worked yesterday but isn’t getting hit today before you switch lures?
I had an hour to kill today so I hit a local pond. I fished for about 45 minutes and didn’t even get a bump. I was thinking I should change to a different lure but first I tried one last spot. 4 casts later I had 2 nice fish that I hope to catch again.
What are your thoughts on how long before you change?

Usually F4f, I'll change colors before I change lure types. Normally 24hrs means similar conditions, so the same presentation should work, but for many warmwater fish color can be a game changer. If you were talking a week, then many conditions may be different, and call for an entirely different presentation. Fish moving up to the shallows, during pre-spawn, or moving to deeper water due to a cold front. That's my basic theory anyway, unfortunately fish don't read the rules, so we do what we have to do.LOL
Obviously your fish just changed location, and cooperated when you found them. Nice catch, by the way. Thanks for the pictures.

I do about 10 casts or so if I’m Bassin. Definitely will move though. I fish for bass on a raft generally or in a boat. For bass I will switch colors and maybe from tube bait to a lead headed jig with whatever color grub. If nothing. May try natural bait if legal. I think I focus more on moving if bite is slow but 10 casts or so. For other type fish may never switch to other rig. Probably in an hour or have more rods setup. Try multiple lures with multiple rods and anglers.

About 15 casts if I know the fish are there, but I am not ready to give up on that spot. I may try 2 or 3 more presentations then move. Some days they are just more stubborn than I am.

Nice fish, F4f, Sorry I'm not a bass fisherman, and we do have a lot of bass around here. It's been on my bucket list for a number of years and this year I fully intend to do it. I do have a good buddy that does do it, and I'm swure he will give me some pointers.

Good tip on color change. Thanks. That isn’t something I would have thought of although my different lure probably would be a different color-sometimes I get lucky.

Fish4, my method is fish a pattern spacing about 10' apart and then reverse the pattern. Then either move on to another spot or a try something different. As for time all depends on the size of the pattern given the area i am casting.

In your situation, it appears the fish had mostly moved elsewhere in the pond , or were just starting to fire up ( get hungry ) when you left the pond. In my opinion, common sense and a little pre- planning can tell you the type of lure to start out with. An example would be if you are fishing around grass , you could start off using a chatter - bait type of lure to locate bass , catch them using that lure until you don’t , then slow down and use a jerk bait type to catch them if they are still around. There are a lot more ways to do this same “ 2 lure” strategy . I wouldn’t stay in the same area more than 1/2 hour if no fish found.. Use colors suited to water conditions , darker water = darker lures, clearer water = natural patterns....My 2cents.

Thanks for your 2cents. Definitely worth more than that.
