When does the spring stripper run start in the Raritan?
JamieG
Loc: new Jersey-sandy hook, raritan bay
Typically somewhere around mid April. Keep an eye on websites with water temperatureAnd when the water gets into the high fifties somewhere around 60 the fish will be actively migratingFrom the South up into the Raritan Bay and all the surrounding estuaries. Keep an eye on websites for local party boats, They will be the 1st ones to report catching some stripe bass. There are only a few of us that post on this site from the Raritan Bay area So keep posting once you have Or have not found activity. If you have the Winter itch the ocean Explorer out of Belmar is fishing for blackfish ,codfish ,ling ,Pollock. Pick A-day with white wind and dress warm. Good luck
Thanks Jamie,
I normally fish the party boats in winter out of brielle and point pleasant, with much success.
I'm a southern jersey guy looking to learn more about the Raritan so I can bring my center console up. Just trying to learn a little about the area before spring hits. I don't want to go completely blind. Thank you for the tips!
Tight lines,
Charlie
The gentleman who owns Atlantic Bait and Tackle in Middletown is usually one of the first guys to have the info you seek. His name is 'Cancun Pete'.
Normally starts in the west end of the bay using bloodworms.

Pete's shop is Atlantic Bait and Tackle, it is on Rt 36 , on the South bound side in Hazlet township. Cancun Pete is also my go to guy, he always has fresh info from party boat captains and local fisherman. His shop is awesome, he has everything you need in bait and tackle and whatever you want for beach, inshore or offshore.
Thank you for the "Heads up"!
I will look into Atlantic Bait and Tackle.
Could anyone recommend/prefer a certain boat ramp on the Raritan bay?
got stripers yesterday near the navy pier on the belmar princess
