PadreBino put me on to this. I never realized it before. Take off your polarized sunglasses! The screen on some digital cameras appears blacked out when viewed through fishing glasses. I wonder how many will test this out.

Polarized sunglasses only allow light to pass through in a single direction, and your phone screen only emits light in a single direction. Your sunglasses and phone screen end up counteracting each other by working in opposite directions. As a result, you end up seeing a dark or black screen.

Well I can't see any of those durn screens when I'm outside. My phone, camera and handheld GPS are all invisible unless I throw a blanket over my head.

I wouldn't do that, Tony, people will start calling you the "blanket head". who knows where that will go.

I have flip up uv polarized lenses that fit on my regular glasses. I can lift them to read the GPS screens.

Try rotating your phone 90 degrees. Might help. I used to have a polarized camera filter. It had two layers. Turning it 90 darkened almost completely and another 90 it would lighten.
