Couldn't post on GCC, so I'm responding here, instead !

Ran into a similar situation back
in the late-70s - a lady I worked
with who was getting a divorce
(who may have been c***ted on/
scorned) was selling her soon-to-
be-ex's hunting rifle !

Although I kinda felt a little guilty taking advantage of some other
guy's misfortune, it was too good
a deal to pass up - I got a 'newer' Remington - Model 700 BDL in
7mm. Magnum, with a Bausch &
Lomb (3x9 power variable) scope, leather case and a box of ammo
for a measley $300 !

Hell, the rifle alone was worth
at least $500 so it really WAS
hard to pass up, as I really
needed a good deer rifle !

I got about a Grand into my Stainless Ruger 7MM Mag w/Leupold optics auto open covers. It’s all lifetime warranty. Really neat weapon. I should get muzzle brake but it is very accurate a flat shooter for sure.

Funny you mentioned the 7 MM Mag Rifle. In about the last year of my working career, a much younger broker happened into my office and asked me about whether a 7 MM Mag would shoot ablsolutely 'flat'! I replied, no, no rifle shot exactly flat and then drew out what the trajectory of all rifles followed. I further explained that's why for general purposes, to begin with a rough
sighting in at around 15 to 20 yards would be good enough to hit the paper at 100. I really don't know if he believed me, or not. He may have just been hot to buy a new, more powerful rifle. Just Sayin...RJS

Well, if her boyfriend was chasing tail, he didn't have time to hunt with that rifle anyway. Probably would not have missed it. Just Sayin...RJS

That's true Robert. I do a lot of shooting or I should say DID before stuff got so expensive. I had a 7 mm magnum and I couldn't buy or load anything that was worth a dang so I got rid of it and now shoot a 300 win mag. This thing knocks stuff down from further away and it don't poke a little tiny hole through stuff closer. I had a 300 weatherby mag before that and it wasn't worth much either. Kicked like a mule just like the 7 mm mag did and just destroyed meat. The 300 win mag don't do that. Plus it'll reach out there and upend a 200 pound wolf at 800 yards. The other two wouldn't do that either. It's amazing how much that 7 mag will drop in 300 yards with factory loaded 150 grain bullets. 14 feet. The 300 win mag drops 6 feet at 300 yards with 180 grain bullets.

Catfish H****r: I was never a fan to such heavy artillery as the 7 MM Mag family. I was always happy with the 6 MM family, .243, and such. In Texas, we don't have any animals I ever hunted that needed anything more than that, so that was all I ever owned, or used. Oh, I did own a Garand M1, but it was more for sentimental reasons that a hunting gun. Just Sayin...RJS

Maybe ! Don't know if he was out gallivanting or not, or if she was
just being a spiteful b***h ! Found
out shortly afterwards that the
7mm mag. caliber was more than
I needed, but at that price it was
hard to pass up, especially for a
model 700 BDL with a good scope !
T***h be told, I would have preferred
it in 30-.06 caliber !

I happen to own both of those calibers, pretty sure you got some bad info CH. 300 win will drop about 3.5 in @ 300yds & 7mag will drop about 5 in @ 300yds

Sorry to say, I've been scraping and scratching so long and hard just to 'get by' that I've been forced to sell almost every gun I've ever owned !

Now that things are (FINALLY !)
improving, maybe I'll get a chance
to replace one or two of them - since
I don't hunt anymore, I'm thinking handguns, first ! Will be looking for
a S&W Model 586/.357 mag with
6" barrel and a Ruger Mark III
Target Model in .22 caliber !
I do love to compete on the range !

Would really love a S&W Model 41
Target Pistol (.22 cal./semi-auto),
but even a used one starts at about $1,000 and I can get the other two
for less than that !

Hello Big A, I have a Ruger Mark 1,and a 2. They shoot good but can't outshine my S&W model 41.
I took a pistol class where we shot 10 yards at a piece of paper. First shot was center of mass, then it was hole-on-hole. My M 41 made the hole just a tiny bit bigger for the next 9 shots. I was offered MONEY for it; I still have it.

Both my Rugers were pretty accurate; the first was a standard model (with the skinny barrel) and the second
was a Model III with the bull barrel -
that said, I'm pretty sure that S&W
model 41 was a real nail-driver, but
I could never have afforded one !

I bought it many years ago, when I had a dealers license, and if I can, I'll take it with me through those "pearly gates" lol.
