Hey all! I’m packing up and moving across the country. I’m putting everything I own in a shipping POD and getting it delivered.

How have you all safely packed up your poles to avoid any damage?

I made a rod holder out of black 4” PVC pipe and put a cap on one end and a threaded plug on the other. I had 4-5 rods in it but could’ve held more. Make it as long as you want. I also drilled a hole in the plug and attached a small cord to it and the tube to keep them together. Beats buying one and a lot cheaper too.

Rhesse makes a lockable end caps for a 6" diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe it has clamps to place on the rack on the top of your vehicle. Or you can put them in your pod. Bass pro shop sells a reel case that holds a dozen reels. All you got to do is scuff the PVC pipe paint it use silicone to place the end caps on. And get a lock.

I agree with the PVC pipe. Another thought if you are crafty and can get large cardboard box, just cut a piece about 30" wide by the length of the box. Fold it lengthwise twice to make a long triangular tube. You can bend another around it to make it longer if needed. I've had lots of rods ship to me in this type of package with success.

Cheese hitch company makes a 6" diameter locking end all you need is the schedule 40 PVC . There is a u-tube video by a kayak fisherman. Nice thing is it mounts to the roof rack of a Jeep or other SUV you have it for a lifetime.

That’s a great idea. I bought one and I am. It happy with it. The PVC would also be stronger

For baitcasters put them in POOL NOODLES for spinning rods use PIPE INSULATION with the split. .Plano also makes a hard plastic case and there's always the hard cardboard mailing tubes and pvc pipe just make sure you wrap the rods in some bubblewrap or rod socks before so they don't move around🇺🇸😀👍the noodles and the pipe insulation are the cheapest and the best each rod being in its own protective case

The cardboard tubes I was referring to are the tubes the post office and ups and fedex use to send. Fishing Rods in pretty indestuctable cardboard not like a cereal box or shoebox cardboard I would think they are as strong as the pvc

The lockable Reese end caps are about $85.00/ set with u bolt sets to attach to roof rack. Plus a twenty foot schedule fourth PVC and a tube of silicone to make it water proof. Add a set of locks . You can hold about ten rods in each tube net cost for a set of two is about $200.00 and it'll last him for a lifetime.

If you plan on a 1 time use setup , I would invest in the pvc, cap , plug idea. Not too expensive....My 2cents.
