3 hours, 9 rods in the sand and no bites - and then......

A group of us South Texas stagers went to the beach today. We sat for three hours in two different spots, at times we had as many as 9 lines out and we didn't have a bite. Not one. Finally a nice fat pompano tripped over my shrimp and fish byte, but we were all nearly ready to quit for the day. Andy had a dinner date and was putting his gear away when the other three of us had bites almost simultaneously. For the next 45 minutes it was pretty much haul 'em in, rebait, cast out and repeat, until we ran out of frozen shrimp. PadreBino was the designated photographer and I know he took some pics, so bug him. When I left he was still cleaning fish with a flock of pelicans and sea gulls trying to help out. But you know what so great about fishing with other folks from the stage? They can verify all this stuff that would otherwise go down as pure BS. Nobody is normally going to believe that 4 old beach bums like us would sit there for over three hours watching rods that seemed made of cement, and swear they were having a good time even before the fish found us.

Sounds like a fun day Tony. Kinda like your version of "Just one more cast". Glad you guys stuck it out, and got the payoff. Looking forward to the pictures.

I guess it was close to 70, but I was freezing. Andy, who is a winter-Texan from Nebraska, was in shorts and wading in the water up to his knees. My thermostat bottoms out at 90.
