I was taught to only use ethanol free high octane gas and I’ve never been let down. That’s always the most important thing to me when out on a boat. Why skimp on a few dollars when it could be your life?

Over a period of time ethanol gas will separate. As it contains a certain amount of water, I don’t think I want to take a chance on it. I’ve been told that even putting additives in won’t always work. For my part,I’ll spend a little extra for the peace of mind

I watched the video… well I should say listened to it. I have ran regular super unleaded ( has 10% ethanol) in boat motors with decent results. Many of the motors had a fuel adjustment for the jets at idle or higher rpm.. ( manual fuel adjustment ).

I think your better off with non ethanol fuel though.

I also have a feeling if your motor keeps stalling etc on the Ethanol fuel it could be some bad gasoline. Non ethanol will run a little better and smells a little different but the ethanol fuel should still run. I have a really bad feeling it could be a bad batch of fuel.

By all means you should try and run non ethanol if you can.

All fuel dispensed on the water ( moorage fuel) will be non ethanol because the moisture will contaminate the fuel tanks before it’s pumped into your boats.

Yes. Ethanol has ethanol in it and non ethanol don’t. 😂. Actually, what I was told by three different boat mechanics is new boat motors will not have much of an issues with ethanol gas if you don’t leave it in the boat for long periods of time with out running it through the system. It will deteriorate certain seals in an older engine as well. There are different detergents in one vs the other and the detergents in ethanol fuel are not good for older engines. Non-ethanol is geared more towards protecting your engine vs just burning and making things happen.

Sorry, Dan, no stories, I always use high octane recreational gas with no ethanol in all of my smaller engines.

I tried the ethanol gas once as there was no non-ethanol available. Never again…as my ‘96 40hp Mercury did not like it (sputtering and lack of power). 91 octane with no ethanol is all I use since that episode.

Yes that’s what I did. Added seafoam thinking it would balance it. It didn’t

Additives that say they get rid of ethanol do not get rid of it. May change it or make fuel run a little better but best especially if have any issues to just get non.

Modern stuff have more electronics that continually monitors. The older stuff I ran the common street gas have adjustments for idle and wide open so can lean or richen the amount of GO JUICE even if it is Aviation Fuel which is higher octane.

Ethanol
will eat up some seal line n gum things up. I run noneth with treatments n a water speration filter. All this is cheaper than repair bills. Water break downs are no fun 👍👍

The biggest problem with ethanol is when it sits for some time in the tank. This is due to it being hydroscopic in nature. This means it will draw water to it and that is why engines don't run well on it, especially motors that sit for weeks at a time, like a boat motor. As a lifelong mechanic I would say do not let ethanol fuel sit in tank or carburetor for more than a few days

If you have a small airport around they may sell Mogas as well as Avgas . Mogas is nonalcohol . If you are going to keep it over a long period it’s good to add stabilizer to it. I use it in all my small engines.

Hampton Airfield. Love it. I also use in all my around the yard motors. Have you been to the updated restaurant yet. The radio ads for the burgers got my attention. 😋
