What's up gents? I'm a total noob surf or pier fisherman, never been. Is there a do all rod and reel combo for both? I would be fishing mainly North Carolina coast, Virginia and possibly Florida. After a little research I would think it's not one out there but thought I'd ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought them as combos. Basically for $10 more than the reel you could get a penn rod too. I think maybe it was called a fierce.

I'm new to surf fishing also. I bought the Penn Battle combo with the 6000 and Battle II rod. Since they don't sell a Battle II rod individually I figured this was going to be a low end rod and it is for Penn. Probably their entry level relabeled for the combo. However, since the combo was only about $10 more than the reel alone, I figured it would be a good learning start. I got the 9 ft. Medium 2 pc. It actually is a pretty versatile rod. Its only rated to 3 oz. so you can't go wild throwing heavy weights. The Battle II reel is a nice reel and I have been very pleased with the combo for the price. I usually put this rod in a sand spike holder with bait while I throw lures with my Tsunami Airwave Elite 9' 6" or an old Shimano Steelhead Special fighting rod that I haven't used for Steelhead in years but makes a nice medium action rod for surf casting lures. I think for money, the Penn Battle combo is a great way to get into surf fishing. I'll probably end up getting a Shakespeare Bigwater rod for casting the real heavy stuff for distance. They are cheap and strong
but heavy. But since it will sit in a rod holder I don't really care. I really like the Tsunami for casting lures since it is much lighter.

You can get a Penn combo in either the Fierce or Battle model. The combo usually costs just $10.00 more that the cost of the reel. Try BassPro if you have one near you.
