What's the ideal rod length and power in your opinion for kayak fishing small freshwater creeks for smallmouth?

I’m thinking somewhere between 6-6’6” MLXF to cover finesse and light jigs/drop shots, possibly a second of the same length in MF for top water/cranks.

I would think 5&1/2 to 6 feet. Max would be 7 foot rod. You have to think balance when casting. Too long a rod would be more trouble. Others, like Plumbob could tell you better.

I use a 5 1/2 and a 6 footer in my little kayka.

You want to be able to reach the rod tip to clear a loop without dropping the reel in the water. 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 is about it for most of us.

I have a 12ft nucanoe frontier. Usually I have 3-4 rods with me when I’m out. I keep them all in front of me laying on the yak bottom. Longest I use is 6-9. I could go longer, but I don’t want rod tips sticking out in front of my yak. I also don’t use those rod holders that make the rods stand up above me. I get into overhangs and tight areas, so everything is best situated laying on the bottom of the yak. The power / action of the rod will depend on where you live and what you are fishing for. ....My 2cents.

+1 shorter is better IMO - use medium power rods for cranks and soft plastics

I used to stream fish out of a canoe a lot
I 6 ft medium light with a 1000 size spinning reel is a blast to use.
Longer rods proved difficult in tight quarters often encountered in such situations.
Will a 1000 size do the job ? You may ask.
I have a 1000 Stella and have caught a slew of 4 1/2 to over 5 and it handled it just fine
