Went fishing today on a nearby lake late in the afternoon. I started out using a small ice jig and waxworm but after 2 hours I hadn't caught a fish. Only a few small nibbles. A nearby fisherman was done for the day and stopped by to see how I was doing. He had a nice 11 1/2" perch and asked if I wanted it since that was all he caught. I gladly took it and asked what he was using. He said he was using a small flutter spoon. I decided to try the only small one I had, a tiny chartruse spoon. However, while looking for it I came across a 1 1/4" perch pattern jigging rap and figured if they were hitting spoons then they must want minnows so why not try the jigging rap first. Sure enough as soon as my bait hit botyom I had a 7" perch. I tossed it back and instantly had a 12 3/4" perch on. For the next 20 minutes it was one aftet another. The smallest one I kept was 9 3/4".

I only wish I had switched to the jig sooner. I probably could have caught a limit of em. I'm not greedy though. Very happy with what I ended up with. It's a meal anyway.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I had a blast catching them. I needed it. I've had a bad streak of luck with the fish the last few times out. This made up for it.
