Learning the Vexlar..

Got an invite to go do a little Ice fishing today. Haven't been out since October and I jumped on the idea. 33 degrees and the sun was shinning. My fishing Bud has lots of toys and today I got my first lesson on using a Vexlar. It a portable locator very popular with Ice fishermen, Now I know why. You lower the transducer in your hole and it's like "Magic". The unit is basically a flasher but man what fun! We were fishing 30 feet of water or so and using tiny jigs with wax worms. you can actually track your jig to depth and watch as gills rise on up to get your offering, very neat! The bit is so Suttle it took me some time to catch on. There is no "TUG", all you get for an indicator is a slack line going stiff. I've had dragon flies land on my rod and give them a bigger bow!
We managed 33 Gills and a couple Lake perch. Nothing real impressive size wise, Good Gills, 8 inchers give or take and the Perch were respectable. Failed on the pictures.... But I did get a shot of dinner😋.
Lemon pepper Broiled Salmon (Last one's I had put away), fries, cauliflower and some Johnny cake.
Can't wait to do BOTH again!

Nice job Lip, hoping my Son teaches me how to use mine as he took it for his tournament yesterday.

I got the same lesson from my buddy when we went out ice fishing recently. Once you knew what you where looking at you could watch yourself get bites.

Nicely done out there in the "ice fishing" realm! Watching fish come near your bait electronically is a blast...and the anticipation is hard to beat as they draw near to your offering! Glad that you guys got a great catch! Delicious looking meal there as well!
