It was very foggy and chilly morning you could see maybe 1/4 mile and the temp was about 32 degrees. The boat had a thin coating of ice on the metal parts and the bow sat high on the rocky shore. I tried to get into the boat but it was slippery and I was bundled up in boots 🥾 and heavy 🧥 coat and gloves so they just pulled up and in
The boat. It was 7am just nearly light the air just cut thru any part not covered
We were using bait casting reels with blue braided line. And it had a large billed fishing lure with out hooks it was used to get and
Keep the bait down near the bottom in the current with a 4 ft leader baited with COON
Shrimp we casted behind the boat with the current behind us. We had 4-5 hits in the morning one fish broke the surface but
I’m afraid that was all that happened for today. We did see 1 fish being cleaned
Other guides said that their day was about the same.

We will try next Sunday to catch one of. those rascals again same place different boat. I will let you know

Those are tough conditions Edward, but you got out, and saw some action. Next week will be better, and yes, you should be glad you're not here 17°as we speak. Good luck next Sunday.

They are a very elusive fish, Ed. Hope you can hook one next week. If there’s ice on the deck, it’s way too cold for me…🐟on

At least you were out. One sure way to not catch any fish is to not go fishing😉

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!! Those steelies are one of the softest biters I have ever fished for with the exception of the half pounders that hammer your bait or flies. Good luck next week and you will catche nice Bows in Sacto. in Redding.

It’s unfortunate that non of those takedowns stuck. Those AM conditions are pretty typical for any of the streams of SW Washington this time of year. I hope that you score a fish on Sunday. The weather will be better and the water will be a bit warmer. Hopefully the fish will feel invigorated and cooperate.
I love using the bait diver behind the drift boat. I prefer to use sand shrimp for bait with a double hook rig. However, Coon shrimp hold up better if the current is strong.
I’m looking forward to more pics on Monday.

Been there many times. I always did a little better down stream a bit at Blue Creek and the Clay banks and down stream a bit from there. Had a Cabin up stream a bit at Cowlitz Timber Trails that I just gave to my Son and Family.

As a retired furniture maker, I see that we have more in common than just fishing. Nice stash of walnut there !
Is that "store bought" (meaning it could be from anywhere in the country, often Missouri or Tennessee, sometimes Cali, if it's "Claro walnut") or some you acquired, locally sourced ?
While we have a couple of good hardwood distributers here in the valley, the best figured stuff, I have acquired by word of mouth of "someone's stash from a big old tree they cut down and rough milled, then stickered for a number of years in a dry barn or shed". I hope there's a good story behind how you ended up with such a nice selection. And kudos to you for your storage methods.... looks familiar....miss my big shop.
You're welcome to send me a PM to discuss the subject of dispersing some of your "excess". While I don't have anything on the books presently, needing walnut, I do have fellow woodworkers that might be interested in "helping" dwindle that stash, let me know.
And surely you must have some articles made from some, that you might share pics of ??
Gotta say, walnut has always been one of my favorite woods to work. Some of my most memorable pieces were of walnut, a bedroom set I did for my best-clients-ever, 12-15 years ago, a pair of benches for a law firm's reception area, 18 tabletops of various sizes and shapes from some gorgeous 8/4 stock for a prominent Ashland restaurant.
Very few things give me greater pleasure than that very first coat of finish, oil or lacquer either, on a sweet walnut "crotch-flame" or some "every-color-walnut-comes-in" perfectly straight grain.... right up there with playing a fine steelhead on a #6wt flyrod or "that first night".... hehehe.
Thanks for sharing, made my morning.
