When I saw this caption my mind went to a time when I nearly drown.
Amazing what that gasp of air will make one be Thankful for.
What has taken your breath away in the past?

Good morning, plum, In answer to your question, it's the third period of a 9 min. wrestling match. Or the last 40 yds. of a 440 yds run in track. I was a good swimmer, I could swim forever. Thank you plum, have a good day.

Being told I had Stage 3 cancer. Losing my job, my home, my car, my marriage and family and being homeless, I could add more but how's that for starters plum?

And you came through on the good side gh. A gasp of relief knowing you are not the only one here on the stage that has been through all and more which you mention.
At least you can talk it out and not keep it all bottled up.

Witnessing the birth of our boys.
I went to a graduation / pool party after HS and after drinking too much I decided to go for a dip in the above-ground pool. Being cocky/lazy I reversed my hands on the ledge and pressed myself up and over the side, intending to release my grip as I went in. My fingers got caught on the ledge and sent me straight down rather than the gentle low angled entry I had envisioned. The top of my head hit the bottom of the pool and I jammed my neck, saw a big white flash and went completely numb. I could still hear the music, a lot of my friend’s voices and laughter as I slid into the deep end…unable to move. It all happened so quickly and quietly, nobody knew I was in the water. As I could see the lights from the party reflecting on the ripples on the surface, I was thinking that this is how it’s going to end…
Luckily for me, the feeling in my fingers came back and I made my way to the side of the pool near the ladder and was able to get out. The entire ordeal took place in about a minute, thankfully no longer as that was about as long as I could hold my breath. That sobered me up immediately, so embarrassed and quite shaken, I grabbed my stuff and left the party, thankful to have another chance.
Good reminder PB, hadn’t thought of that in a while.

My near drowning OJ not as traumatic as yours.
Undertow at the beach took me much further than i expected and after going under once and popping my head up there was the hand of the priest who took 3 of us boys for the weekend trip reaching out and saved me.
Thank You Father Lenz wherever you may be.

It's extremely difficult to recreate that kind of fun Bob. On the plus side, I did see my 4 children born. That was pretty cool. Boy, that sounds old - cool.
It’s amazing what goes through your mind in just a few split seconds. I too almost drowned over being stupid and getting in too deep. A good friend and neighbor of ours just happened to be paying attention and was in the right place. She has since passed on but that is something I’ll never forget

Many years ago went to the swimming hole with my brother and sister both could swim I couldn't stepped off a rock and went straight down first thought was hope someone sees me 2nd thought I need to start splashing and get myself out luckily my head broke water and I splashed my way to shallow water climbed out sat down and stayed there awful feeling to think you're going to drown
Close calls are something not many avoid. Either I was lucky or my head just won't let me remember.
Getting struck by a car when I was young . Two separate times
