had to run some errands this am & I noticed a slight shimmy from RF tire that got progressively worse. I limped it back to shop & as I was pulling tire, noticed only 1 lug nut was tight. Just had 6 new tires put on right before xmas, so I called tire shop where it was done(not sure if I can mention place without getting sent to attic) they told me I didn't bring truck back after 25 miles for a re-torque. Is this something new,I been working on all my vehicles & equipment for 35 yrs & never had lugs loosen on me. Now I have to go check all tires

Never had it happen to me either. Guess we had better keep an eye on it from now on.

The torque on the gun was not correct, IMO. Or they didn't use the correct lug nuts at some point in time. SAE versus Metric lug nuts.

I think what bothers me the most is I have my family in this truck going 75 on most highways, hate to think what would happen if the tire just fell off

Absolute wrong doing by the tire installer.. Most places have two that check all lug nuts for torque. You do not need to bring back in two weeks to get retorqued!!!!! Any reputable tire company will tell you the same thing.

Never hear of a re-torquing procedure immediately after a tire change, sounds fishy Al. Once got my oil changed at one of those “chain” oil change places many years ago. Parked in the garage and noticed oil spots on garage floor. Both the pan plug and filter must have been simply hand tightened. From then on have always changed my own. Thank God you weren’t going 75 mph with your family on board.

They have to say something to cover their a$$. Any good mechanic/installer should check his work.

Yikes, that’s such a scary thought. I’m glad you caught it in time. Nobody should have to worry about something like this. 🤬

I was at pep .... the other day to get a couple tires fixed. Noticed the same thing on my bill. If you don't take it back for a re-torque and something happens it's on you.

I would talk to a Lawyer about that. They are NOT using a Torque Wrench on the lug nuts. Just the air Wrench. Time to go to a different Tire store. Pep Boys has messed up on my cars too many times. I don't go back there any more. Wrong plugs, Ordered parts in and the wrong parts came, Ect.

They put that on their bill, just to cover their butts. Bringing them back to be checked, should not be necessary. I have never heard of it before, and I worked for a dealership for 25 years. It's tough to get good help, most of the kids don't give a rip. Get your oil changed at someplace you know does good work.
