Alligator Point, FL - Fishing in the bay

Hi All,

My wife and I are renting a cabin on the bayside of Alligator Point in late April. We'll have a nice long fishing dock and will bring our kayaks. I'm a freshwater fisherman and have no experience with saltwater angling. I do plan to try for redfish, sheepshead, flounder, or whatever else may be out there. Any suggestions as to what gear I need to bring, what bait or lures to use, and what methods work best would be greatly appreciated.

Bounce off the bottom for flounder, redfish as well as flounder like shrimp live or frozen, and check in at local bait shop for what and where is being caught.

I am partial to the diesel Z man baits & Z man red eyed jig heads with some Pro Cure shrimp scent in the slit.

You have some time before then, good time to stock up now.

If the local bait shops have them available, mullet, live or frozen, will work or Red fish. Cut the dead mullet in 1/3, and use that for Reds, Just Sayin...RJS

There are some fair size black drum that hang by bridges and overpasses. Chunks of blue crab on a carolina rig are usually pretty effective. Cast right next to the pilings.
