I start by putting some environmentally friendly antifreeze down your drains making sure that your bilge pump pumps out whatever comes out that way you clear out water out of your bilge pump and out of the boat itself pull your plug then drain your lower unit oil and refill then I always fog my motor make sure that there’s no moisture in your lower unit oil as well as filling your cylinders with fog it is a tedious process not difficult but I have decided I’ll be late to just pay someone else to do it that way it’s all done and I have time for other things

Down here, put it in and go fishing. Have broken ice twice down here putting the boat in. Have had snow in Fourchon twice since 88 that I know of. Not really an issue.

Adding oil to the intake charge to coat the inside of the cylinders with a film of oil. It prevents rust and stuck rings. I've been doing all my boat motors that stay outside during the winter, for 40+years. I use Marvel Mystery oil.

Thanks Fred, kind of figured it was something to in that line. In NC I had a 22' Sea Pro for a few years and winterizing was not running the boat for a week or two that was called winter.

I also run some RV antifreeze thru the cooling system while fogging the motor. Since I do mine Thanksgiving weekend, I worry about any leftover water freezing in the motor, so this flushes it all out.

Over 300 hits on this topic and only 6 guys come forward that they winterize. I guess not a big thing to do anymore.

It's SOP up here for any boat that spends the winter outside. There are thousands of them along the shoreline, winterized and covered with shrinkwrap, or tarps, and waiting for the Springtime to arrive.

Probably have garage space, or pay to have it done.
