Catfish hunter Loc: Riggins idaho (Paradise)

We are seeing an influx of non resident fishermen/women showing up her in Idaho. Most of them just looking for fish of any kind and most from Oregon and Washington. Is the fishing all closed over that way? We’re glad they’re here and they are welcome. We have bought for everybody but just wondering why they don’t fish where they are. Granted we have year round, open, fishing here but seems like a long ways to go for pan fish. I just booked 3, free, perch fishing trips today at cascade lake for February and I don’t even guide fishermen. Just being a nice guy. Plus I, kinda, like an excuse to go fishing.😂

The giant perch in Cascade is one reason why they come. The variety and quality of fishing in Idaho is far superior to Washington. And the crowds are much smaller. CJ Strike is one of my favorite lakes. Great fishing before it gets to hot. And there are few campers into mid June. Unfortunately that will change in time, as the continued loss if fishing options in Washington send people elsewhere.

In western Washington the large populations just go to popular lakes in large numbers. Making the fishing experience less than desirable. Where I live only in the summertime are there more fishermen than you would like to see but Lake Roosevelt is a large body of water. The boats drive fast in the no wake zones because they know the river rangers are not out on the water. Here boats will run right over your lines that are being trolled even if room exists for them not to do this and it is only crowded three months of the year in certain areas where the fish are biting. They will move in on your spot as well rather than take the time to look for the bite as well some other place. Just examples of why you might be getting people in your area from the west side of Wahington more than from the east side of the state. Just things I have experienced. Tell me if I am wrong. Now I am curious also.

Hi Catfish,
I've fished Cascade with and without ice a few times. Caught some nice perch, but never through the ice...and never the "jumbos" so many guys seem to get when ice fishing. It seems that there's been quite a bit of publicity about winter fishing at Cascade. (Which may account for some of the increased interest from out of state.)
So I recently "bit the bullet" and signed up for a guided trip on Cascade. Gotta find out if good electronics is a necessity, if nothing else. If that's what it takes, I'm down for it...for next year, if not for this. I have caught some nice trout without the electronics, but most of my trout fishing is closer to home down here near Meridian. (Kokanee, too, in Arrowrock and Lucky Peak reservoirs.

Dag nabit,hit send before respond,try this again.In reference to cedadirvergirls post,Definitely not wrong,seen all you mentioned on lakes and Puget Sound plus more,like salmon &steelhead fishing the rivers standing shoulder to shoulder(combat fishing) people casting over each other,snagging each other cussing & bitching,acting like they own the fishing hole.It can get pretty aggressive out there for what should be a fun and relaxing sport.
