I am not a skilled life long fisherman so some of the normal phrases that get tossed around I don’t understand.
Reel size. “I’m using a 2500, 3000, 3500…. Is this just a regular sizing term for reels? Spinning, baitcaster or both?
Does it have something to do lb test? Spool size? What you’re fishing for? Ocean/fresh water?
I’m sure I can Google it but the real pros are on the stage. Experience matters.
Thanks for the help.

It's the physical size of the spinning reel. The smaller the number the smaller poundage line and amount of line on spooks can differ tremendously.
Go you a high quality sporting goods store and you can handle all ot he different sizes based on what you are going to be fishing for.
And just so you know. We don’t consider any question stupid. If I don’t know something don’t be afraid to ask

Absolutely correct. I watched this subject just because I thought I knew the answer and wanted to see if I did. Learn new stuff here all the time. Only stupid questions are those left unasked. IMO
Thanks Charly, that clarifies the situation a lot. It's too bad that the manufacturers won't agree on a standard for everyone to follow. That goes for older reels too. I have some from the '80s and '90s that the model numbers don't match the modern
Standard at all.

That is why the 3 types are now standardized sizes/brands. It was not a govt idea. It works.

There's quite a bit of difference between brands if you look at line capacity. 20-40 yards difference with the same lb test, for spinning reels that are supposed to be the same size.
Not sure but it is frame size not spool??

Might be Charly, but line capacity would mean more, in my opinion. But maybe that's just me?
Thanks everyone. This helps a lot. 👍
The only stupid question is the one not asked!

Not totally correct. Questions that you know are going strait to the attic fall in the stupid range, even though they sometimes need to be asked?
