Looking for something that can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Go with a Penn. Different price points but all are good solid reels that usually last
Everything is a personal preference, price brand size, etc.
I’m on board with Flyt’er…Penn is a good choice and wide range..I like the Slammers for surf fishing…4500 & 6500…the 6500 and larger have manual bail so won’t trip during a cast when your leaning into it…I’ve got Penn reels that I bought in the 60ies that still work great…
I have 3 Penn Battle 2’s of different sizes. I like them a lot, but I’m also looking for a new reel. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Daiwa BG’s. Thinking about pairing it with a Lamiglas Black inshore for stripers. I’d be interested in hearing what others say as well.
You owe it to yourself to take a look at the Shimanos.
Really like the BG REELS. Fish salt and I hang them all on Ugly Sticks. Fishing off shore you don’t need a sensitive rod, just power. BG 8000 loaded with 60# Braid has landed lots of 200/250 plus fish. Have everything from BG2500 to 8000. All preform well. 8000 with rod about $200/225 depending where you shop.
Just bought an Alvey. So far - great.
