My siblings and I were raised up with cane poles in our hands. Still have our first Zebco rod and reels our Granddaddy gave us. We would bait our hooks with anything we could get on them: crickets, worms, baloney, sour cream and onion potato chips, and bread(and yes, fish love bread, lol!). We were ragged alot on that list, but we didn't care cause we were FISHING!!! We could be standing on the pier, or somewhere in the middle of our beloved Santee we had a blast, good clean fun! Not a care in the world just fishing! I miss those days!
I look forward to learning more from the group here! Hello to all!!

Welcome to the stage LTH. Have those not a care in the world days returned to your world again? Sounds like retirement is in the works.

There is some really neat people in the East. Gordon is a wealth of information in your state. Welcome to FStage.

Bread does work and I remember it too as a kid.

Aqua critters usually turn white when dead in the water. Not sure if that is why bread was so effective or not.

Good luck fishing and please share pictures when you do.

Do you guys still fish together? That would be cool. If not, no matter, I usually fish by myself, and that's OK too. Gotta do that cuz most people won't get outta bed to load up, and travel to a spot, in time to start fishing at the crack of dawn. If you're after LM bass, that's the way to success. Plus, it's the best part of the day, IMHO. It's quiet and peaceful , just croaking frogs and chirping birds to "disturb" you. Water is often like glass , surface perfect for topwater lures, which to my mind is the ultimate. Nothing better than a bass busting the surface in pursuit of a spook, popper, or a jitterbug.
Let us know if we can help. That's what we do best here.
