Thought that was in affect now, this year? Good for 1 year from date of purchase.
I guess that has pros and cons. I kind of like knowing I have to buy a new license every april 1 and can buy it a couple month in advance if I want to with out changeing the renewal date back a couple month to the purchase date. a few years back they made all boat license renewal June 1 which I kind of like since I can do both boats the same time every year and don't have to try to remember a different date for each boat.

Great. I look forward to it here. Hopefully they will. Many years In past I would get licensed ASAP before New Years. Anymore I usually don’t go get it all until I am definitely going fishing and planning hunting. If it was from date of purchase then my license would never need replacement until probably about April when doing the hunting planning. I would probably head out a bit more in January for Sturgeon like I used to every year. Currently I don’t usually end up targeting Sturgeon right now where it’s legal for few reasons. Most places I use to fish can not be fished even catch and release this time of year. My favorite was up in Gorge until quota is met.
I really hope they change it here.
Yes, I agree. The older I get, the more I need positive markers, or dates to do things, or I will likely forget. Just Sayin...RJS

For me, it would make no difference. I get mine the first day after Jan. 1 each year that the town hall is open. I enjoy stopping in each year, it's a ritual. Live in a small Connecticut town, where there are seldom any lines @ Town Clerk's office. CT license is free for seniors, just pay for trout "stamp" . My town's employees are really nice so far in my experience, I don't go in to Clerk, Tax assessor, Water dept, etc. , with an attitude, because even if I have a dispute, THEY are not responsible for it.
The one advantage to the alternative method of online renewal is if ya lose your copy of license its easy to get a replacement online, or store a copy in your computer or phone initially. Me, I'd just pop into Town Hall again.
Love small town life.......

Well R J , so do I . I keep those dates on my phone calendar and have set it up to give me a daily report of what I need to do, and it will pop up each event separately and daily until I update or delete it. Real handy feature. Maxx

Sounds like the size town I grew up in. I would do the same if I was you too.
I think it’s awesome you have respect for the towns employees. They are usually good people. The stigma is not very accurate on them. I hear and saw a lot of the stuff your hinting about.
I think I have 21 more years until I could get pioneer license due to the 50 year resident part here. Buddies get it here and have nice place in Washington but doesn’t want to transfer to Washington because will then have to be non-resident if fishing on this side of Columbia River.
California has passed that the fishing license will be for one year from when you buy it, but it's going to take most of a year before they can actually implement the change.
When it's all said and done it really won't make much difference, but I'm still happy to see it. It used to be that I'd put off getting the license until I was going to have a chance to actually go fishing. Sometimes - especially before I retired - we'd get pretty well into the year before I'd get my license. When that happened, I'd feel miffed because they didn't pro-rate the cost of it. After they implement the change, I could wait until even September and wouldn't feel cheated. I know that it doesn't really make a difference, it's all just psychological.
Now, if only they'd discount it for us seniors and/or veterans...........

We can hope you will get a discount. I agree with the rest you just posted. I do same. But usually spring time. It would get me up in Gorge Sturgeon Fishing then I would just keep boat summerized instead of winterized and avoid using for another month or two like I been doing.
I feel for those who don’t fish in the early months of the year you would get a little more for your money by not paying for months not fished, but I see where the difference isn’t that great

Some places may prorate but I haven’t found any. Always been annual or by the day— or several days. But the expiration 1 year later no matter when is a much more fair and basically giving the angler the most opportunity to get money worth and also motivate to go earlier.

Yep some of them you buy Dec 31 pay full price. Jan 1 you get to buy a new one. Best part about lifetime license.
