Most pros power Fisk as do a lot of the guides. Only you can decide if you want to power fish. Flipping, pitching punching, Carolina rigging, glid baits, giant swim baits , skipping docks . If These are the techniques you want to do then you may well need to invest in a bait caster if not stay in your comfort zone. You see I've guided for hunting and fishing for years and I've completed in tournaments off and on since the seventies.

I use both once you learn how use and and understand how to adjust your baitcaster they are ha4d to put down and you can cast further with a baitcaster!!
Have a great year fishing π£

Agreed. They are tools and have their own purpose.
You will find bait casters can also be specialized. For example , one may be more efficient at one presentation , another may be more efficient at another presentation.
Gear ratio makes a difference with lower ratios being more efficient with hard pulling baits like crank baits.
Higher gear ratios are good for picking up slack in a hurry with slower moving bottom contact baits
Kinda counter intuitive slow for fast and fast for slow , but this is how I fish them.

Use what you are comfortable with
I use spinning gear for about95% of my Bassin, different weight outfits for various techniques !
Have a (HEAVY ) spinning rod for fishing the junk and I guarantee he's coming out of there or his lips will !
My friend has pro bass fished for 30 years and he only uses a spinning rod and is very comfortable with.

I agree with you π― percent. And like you said about the gear βοΈ ratio.
If you are really serious a nout bass fishing, I carry 6 or 8 rods (set ups) in my boat if I don't I feel naked !! They are all set up differently.
I'm not saying everyone has to do this but when I go and fish in my son inlaws bass boat I only take 3 rods because of the room .
I love bass fishing because it's like Deer π¦ hunting except π your hunting under if you under stand what I mean.
Have a great week and a great year fishing π£ and safe times in your travels and on the water
Andy
I use both for fishing, I'll go between the two of them. but most of the time I prefer bait caster. The trick with baitcasters is having the brakes set to the bait or jig, etc. you are using

Bingo Barry. Baitcasters are easier for me to use for long periods of time. It's like most things in life. If you don't put in the time you don't get the rewards. π

We fished sometimes 4 times a month.
Hope all is well with you and your family πͺ.
Good fishing π£ this year.
Andy
Here's the thing, you have already learned how to use the open face reel. You can cast where to what to with it. I started out with Bait casters way back and went to a closed face first and then to an open face spinning reel. I now ONLY use bait caster reels when dropping the line from a boat. No matter how good you get with a bait caster you will get a backlash unless you have different reels set for the weight you are casting. That's why the guy said 5-6 rods and reels when he goes out. You have to adjust the breaking on a bait caster each time you change the weight of the item you are casting, Bait, Lures, ect. You don't have to do that with a spinning reel. If the line is not put on correctly or the Mono is old, you will not have problems after the cast with a spinning reel.
Stay with what you already know and have fun.

I'm at a crossroads (Midlife Crisis). I'm MUCH more comfortable using a Spinning setup for bass. I see all the "Pros" almost exclusively using Baitcasters. When reeling and casting, Spinners seem much easier.
Why should I switch over to Baitcasters????? (Or should I???)
If you are MUCH MORE comfortable with a spinning reel then I would stay with it. Every couple of years I get a urge to try a baitcaster, that's when I remember why I stay with spinning tackle.

Sorry to hear that Andy. GOOD fishing buddies are hard to find. We're still hanging in there. Got the snow n ice last night. I took my leaf blower out n blew snow off driveway before the freezing rain n sleet hit. Fuel cap broke on snowblower n nobody had one. Neighbor had his snow blower out but the thick ice layer was giving him a fit. I used a shovel took my time. Helps me get in shape for spring. You have a grandson to keep you company brother. ππ±π·π±π·
