Honesty I always the best policy. It’s hard to find a lot that will always play that way.

To be honest I would say. Lucky.. blessed or whatever it is. I think the stars lined up and somehow this happened. I wouldn’t worry too much. I think it might have happened for a reason. Maybe pay back is a good thing in this situation. You could analyze it as karma. Religious reasons. Etc. You did good things in your life. You didn’t receive 4 dollars from a person that only has 5 but owed you 2 or 3. No one that sent it to you will go broke or starve.

I have had things very similar happen. Usually nothing I bought but just things that I was like how in the world did this ever transpire? I wonder if it was payback for many times when I have helped someone that wanted to pay me and I said no way. People I never knew. People on a freeway in high heat. People at the end of an off ramp I had absolutely no reason to get off on. I helped them. Maybe sometimes I wore myself out. Other times it was nothing.

Recently I happened to have my little very small jumper box/usb lithium battery. A guy was in need of of a jump right where I was. I got him running. Just do something good for others when you can. Don’t endanger yourself but it’s easier than most selfish people think.

I bought one of those, a couple of weeks ago, 2000A peak output. Wasn't cheap, but works REALLY well on a totally dead battery jump start. I could hardly believe the power of this thing. All in a package of approx. 10"
X 5" X 3" ! Nice piece of modern technology. Will see how long it lasts. Bought it primarily for my own safety, but used twice in last two bitter cold days to help others, including not so bright woman who ventured out at early evening, with her child, with a known weak battery, and a cell phone that died on her during her call home, because she had failed to charge it up. Got her going, let her call home with my phone, and then ( and I'm not gonna lie ) Gave her a stern lecture , an @$$ chewing actually, about her responsibility as a parent. Sometimes when it comes to kids, I get a little unhinged , and interfere where I should probably just shut up and mind my own business. But, I don't. As Steve Martin used to say, well Excuuuuuuse me !

About a year ago I was buying new reels for surf fishing. Amazon had a deal on Penn 4000's for $30 - can't turn that down so I ordered two of them, plus I needed a smaller reel so I ordered a 2500 to go along with it. Amazon sent me a message and said they were shipping the 4000's but the 2500 was on back-order. I got the 4000's and all was cool. About a week later I got a box and it contained a 2500 and an additional 4000. I waited a couple weeks and never heard from Amazon and I checked my Master Card and I had only been billed for 3 reels. Now I hate to admit it in public but I kept the extra reel.

Okay, I lost the eyes on a couple of rods recently and I had this extra reel from the Amazon deal and I go to Amazon and find this deal on Ugly Stix. I ordered 3, 7' MH fast action rods. I get a message from Amazon saying they shipped two and the third one is back ordered. I got the two last week. Yesterday, while I was out fishing the delivery guy dropped off a box. You want to guess or should I just tell you? Yep. two rods. Checked the debit card account and I've been charged for three. I'll wait and see, but they sure make it hard for a guy to remain honest. I can always use the extra rod and reel for when relatives come from up north so it's not like they will go to waste but I hate feeling guilty while fishing, this is supposed to be relaxing.

I would call them. More than likely they would just tell you to keep them to avoid cost of shipping. No guilty feeling later

I have heard that if you receive a package in the mail, and it has your address on said package, it is yours to keep even if you did not order it. just sayin

What RJS said. If you feel dishonest about it, then it probably is.

That is true but he ordered something and got 2. Mistake for company. If someone gives me the wrong change I let them know, doesn’t matter if mistake benefits me or them. Father taught me this and I have never felt guilty.

I believed you and you did what I would have done. Not much else you could do being honest with them. If they’re confused about it at least you did the honest thing and told them about it👍

I’m with you Frank. Honesty is a virtue I’ve always lived by and I sleep good. Anyone that, actually, knows me will attest. The truth ALWAYS comes out one way or another. I was elk hunting in Jackson Hole Wyoming a few years back and I stopped for gas at a KOA along the buffalo fork of the Snake River. Got $30.00 worth of gas, handed the little gal behind the counter 2 $20.00 bills and she gave me $60.00 in change. The 2 bills I gave her and 2 $10.00 bills back. I asked her why she was tipping me. She looked at me kinda funny and I gave her $50.00 back. She was new and said “thank you so much for being honest. That would have cost me my job.” My buddy said I was nuts for giving that money back. He said “they make plenty in there”. Needless to say he’s not my hunting buddy any more.

Not much for morals or ethics in that though. I’ve received packages that weren’t mine and I returned them or found the rightful owner. The folks that ordered them are told “it shows as delivered”. You are right though. The owner of the the meat shop my wife works for ordered a, pretty expensive, rolled ice cream machine and it was delivered and signed for in a town 300 miles northeast of us. Her boss stopped payment on it and ordered another one but the people that signed for it kept it and there wasn’t anything the company could do to get it back. That’s just wrong in my opinion.

Good choices, both giving the money back and dumping the jerk hunting partner.

As for the extra rod, contact them. In almost all cases they will tell you to keep it along with an apology for messing up your order. At that point it is yours. The truth be told, It cost more for postage, restocking and paperwork than the fishing rod or reel. That being said, it should be their choice, not yours.

Well like you said if you feel guilty while fishing just called them and paid for them, if they say don't worry about it them you don't have to feel guilty while fishing.
