Hiya’ Fellow Anglers!
Wonder if anyone has input and advice on how the surf and fish are effected by the Pacific tsunami as of today. Heading out on a little science around Capitola experiment and hope the perch will be there!
Thanks for your thoughts!
No idea G, but a great question. Is Capitola a good spot? Do you fish there often? When are you planning on going? Not real soon, like today, I hope. Be Safe! And post some pics?

I think by the time it get's here it will hardly be noticeable. The big tidal wave about ten years ago did lots of damage to Santa Cruz. You could even see the effects in S.F. bay. The marina in San Rafael has a picture of two waves rolling across the otherwise calm bay. Looked like tug boat wakes, but no boat in sight. The rush of water would come through the marina breakwater, push against the launch ramp and the split down the shores. No damage but incredible to think that power came clear across the Pacific from Japan.

Its excellent Chief , saw a guy about 50 yards from me catch about a 10lb Striper , but real good for perch, has a small natural creek running into surf,, I try and hit it every time we go to visit my daughter in Santa Cruz.

Good Luck Gmaster, try some clam bait or Root Beer 2" grubtails
I'd be careful about fishing on the beach or in the ocean. Anywhere rising water can get to you. I was getting bait at Loch Lomond in San Rafael a few years back during that tsunami and the water while not unsafe was rushing in and the bait shop on the dock floated up a couple three feet, maybe more. I went and fished China Camp, on high ground and fishing was good, caught several nice Striped Bass but they seemed out of it. Caught them on live bullheads and released them all.

My daughter just sent these pics of water being sucked back out but then the comeback was only 1 to 2 ft waves, pics were sent to her 20 to 30 minutes ago
When's a good time to get to Capitola for some perch? Kathe wants to get out of here like tomorrow.

Best times ,early morning till mid morning, late afternoon ,and or high tide, you'll see some jetties by the marina try them , there's nice shops and restaraunts at the marina for Kathe while you fish Good Luck Chief, dont forget to try your LuckyCraft Surfpointers!
Chief there's another gentleman on Stage that lives there and said when we go to shoot him an e-mail for info and/or fishing I can't remember his name though! Senior Citizen moment dam#it! What about also asking douglasthomson?
Everything turned out excellent! Overall the tide was calm with some strong current with at most 2-3ft waves. What was most interesting about the tsunami effects was that whenever the tide was high (and it was very noticeable), everyone was able to get hits! Nothing huge, but definitely having fish tacos for dinner with a 15 perch take (tossed back everything that was less than 7”) with my family of 3! A couple of bullheads and a handful of sand-dabs (baby halibut). So let’s just say, the tsunami brought some good luck today! Keep them lines tight everyone - Mahalos all around!
Dang that boy got some feet on him. He gonna eat you out of house and home growing into em.
