Looking for fishing buddies who wish to go fishing in the Monterey Bay from April 1st through November 1st 2022. I own a 2021 185 Luxor Thrasher Jet Aluminum Fishing Boat. Must have a valid fishing license and share in the cost of fuel and bait etc. or about $30.00. If your interested please send me a email douglasmthomsonsr1@yahoo.com
What will we be fishing for? What kind of gear should I bring? I'm old and I'm crusty, I'm a retired Navy chief and I haven't been on the salt in about 40 years. You sure you want to put up with me?
And welcome to the Stage. There are quite a few of us on here from around your area. You'll probably be hearing from some of em.
We fish for Rock Fish, Salmon, Halibut and other fish that are in season when we are fishing in the Monterey Bay. We use Salt Water gear and bait that can be purchased at the Harbor if you need it. If were fishing in the lakes we fish for Trout, Catfish, Croppies and Bass. If we fish on the Rivers we fish for Salmon, Steelhead, Strippers, Sturgeon, and Trout. We use freshwater tackle and sometime use waders when not in the boat.
Is that the editorial "we" or are there more than one of you? Can you please be more specific? If I were to come to fish in the bay, what type of fishing gear should I bring? "Salt Water" gear covers a whole lot of territory. I happen to own some surf fishing gear, but can't imagine that would work very well on a boat. At least not the rods.
We would be you and I or on occasion us if we have another person joining us. As for the gear, we purchase salt water gear specific to Rock fish, Halibut or Salmon according to this years regulations. I also jig for live bait which is the desired method for the Monterey Bay. Before we go I get the correct bait and gear at the bait shop. I tie my own leaders. Steel leaders are needed for Ling Cod, Shark, Halibut and other species. You can buy these leader premade as well. I recommend watching some videos on the various methods being used according to the species we are fishing for. I also downloaded the Fishing regulations since they have changed this year.

I’m very interested too. I also can definitely try and coordinate with you at least for a day or several this coming April. The two good guys that are interested would be a good group. I’m going to be rolling through the region once or twice in April and May.
If things work out would like to try later in the summer. Will email or PM you when time comes.
Hi Jeramy I say its worth the effort when the bite is on. Don't forget its 35 MPH going over the hill on 17 when your towing a trailer or boat and its much safer these day. As for launching I think our harbor is pretty easy to navigate. If you decide not to bring your boat, we could always use mine. PS I am 100% DAV Naval Veteran. Nothing but respect to the Marines. Lets keep in touch. Take care.
