I've not only heard of him, I've read him. Several times. Emerson and Thoreau. I can't imagine you enjoying Thoreau g. I bit saccharine for for your tastes, no?

Took all kinds of American and English Lit in college. Thoreau was my favorite. Not sure saccharine describes his work but I could be wrong. His philosophy about life I believe is fairly accurate for many people.

Once I saw a mama Quail and her babies walk right by me while I was sitting in a chair on the deck. We lived it the mountains back then.

Off subject here but you reminded me of a joke. The old radio shows from the 40’s.
One of the private eye guys would always narrate the action that was happening.
β€œThere was a knock on the door, I walk over to the door and opened it. There was a dame standing there with a pair of 38’s pointed at me. She also had a gun.”

I don't know you at all g, so I realize that it's presumptuous of me to comment at all, but I figured you, from what I seen of your posts, to be more of a Hobbes guy than Thoreau. nasty, brutal and short
don't expect much and you won't be disappointed could be straight out of Hobbes.

From Hobbes to Thoreau, grim to saccharine not much of a stretch philosophically speaking, is it?

Not much of stretch. Maybe I'm a bit eclectic, eccentric, and enigma of sorts. Or I could just be a cranky, cynical, negative old man. I'll let others decide.

Well, I consider myself a cranky, cynical, positive old man. Look up curmudgeon on wikipedia and there might be a photo of me there. I've always wondered about Hobbes' own view of himself, since he had such a dim view of the rest of us.

Do you ever wonder if clouds look down at humans and think β€œThat one looks like an idiot!”
