Looking for information and dates for fishing.
Came here from San Antonio 2yrs ago. Lived in upstate NY before that. I never wet a line in Texas but would like to fish in a nearby river. The river is the Withlacooche or something like that but dont know what dates you can fish or the dates of the season. I have a senior license for fresh water and was wondering about bait. Would love to get some feedback so I can get started. I am going to try methods I used in NY but I might be trying too light of great. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Lots of people from the 'lone star state'. Just don't rush them, they will show up. Freshwater or salt? Something called 'brackish' water, where the salt and fresh meet. You can catch bass, and in some places, the south American fish, Peacock bass.

Welcome to the Stage G-pa. Check the Florida rulebook for seasons and limits. Don't go by just word of mouth. It doesn't carry any weight in court. Good luck and remember we love pictures !
For bass a golden shiner works . I used to get them at a place in Dunellon fla. Fester and fins was a motel marrina back then. We used balloons instead of corks. One of the greatest fisherman I met there was Buck Brey. I'm not sure if I spelled the last name right. I remember his obituary in Bass Master Magazine.
Buck wrote the book on Florida shiner fishing.

Thank you for your response, I will try to use some of my jars of minnows and hope they work. I am not sure how to use this sight but I hope you get this message.

Are you looking for mostly bass,
or crappie, catfish, etc. ? Plenty
of ponds/lakes/streams with
bass in Florida, but watch out
for 'gators and cottonmouths,
as they're also pretty much everywhere you may be fishing
(except the 'salt') !
If you're a trout fisherman, there is only one place in Florida that I'm aware of - Hiamonee Plantation,
about 30 min. north of Tallahassee, which is a fee-fishing location (fly-fishing/catch-and-release only) for rainbow trout between November
and March ! It is privately-owned
and stocked with decent-sized
trout (out of his pocket) throughout the winter ! It's about a 3-hr. drive
from Ocala to the Plantation !
Beanville plantation is a pay area with ponds close to you also the Florida stick marsh. Lake Rousous is at Dunellon as well as lake Hernando. Plus plenty of areas south of you with peacock bass. Crappie fishing is abundant in Florida lakes Harris chain orange lock Lucy Saint John's river Okaachobee to mention a few there good fishing at stenajatchee get a copy of woods and water magazine
Thank you for the information. Will have to get out and explore. I really don’t care what I fish for I just want to fish and relax. Have quite a bit of time now.
Thank you for the information. I will be checking out different places. I will check out the river and then spread out to other locations.
