I've fished Lake Cachuma a lot of times. Their campgrounds are nice and clean with flush toilets and showers. I have pretty good luck with a 2 lb. leader and a no# 18 treble hook with floating bait. Worms are good too. If you rent a boat go close to the dam. It you fish from the shore go down to the other end of the lake. Be sure you have a California fishing license because the Game Warden IS THERE. My son -in-law got caught with no license and he had to go to court and they wanted over $900.00 for the fine, don't take the chance. You can get a license and any other thing you may need for fishing at the lake store. You can take your pet but it can't get close to the lake and there is also a charge. The camping has motorhome camping and tent camping. I have always enjoyed myself there and I'm sure you will also.
