Sounds like fun Sy, and you'll be a step ahead of the game come springtime.

Come spring all I have to do is take five frozen pre rigged fish with me, just cast them out allowing them to thore out in the water and just wind it in or just dead stick the Herring..

Good thinking. I’ve always used them fresh for stripers, I’ve never tried them during other seasons.

What I do I take an old bicycle spoke and hammer the threaded end flat and drill a hole and cut it open.. I push this homemade needle into the fish through it's mouth and out of it's tail area and attach the eye of my leadered hook and pull the leader through the body of the fish using the needle..Wrap each fish with plastic wrap and place 5 fish in a used zip lock bag that normally would be disposed of.. Then into the freezer..

I have bought bait threaders at BiMart here that are just like the spoke drilled etc. they worked good for sturgeon fishing.

I have plenty of spokes and when i see discarded bicycle wheels I remove the spokes and use them to through wire a plug when I have to restore the lure because they are rusted out.....I also use a spoke to make a hook remover... But thanks i'm going to purchase a bait threader also..
