My flashlight came out of my tool pouch and rolled to front of truck bed.
Well I have one of those handy dandy tailgate steps. Deployed that.
Also have a handy dandy hold onto thing.
Decided I didn’t need to deploy that.
Mistake.
Stepping up. Leg gave out and next thing I know I’m landing flat on my back in the parking lot!! Good thing it was 14 degrees. Any colder and it might have really hurt.
Getting old I guess.
My back was tight to begin with . Now I’m all jammed up.

Took inventory of what wasn’t hurt, made it to my feet and got the flashlight after deploying the hold on thing.
Who ever designed that should get a bonus !!

Glad to hear you are relatively ok Ben.
I am sure you are aware that it could have been lots worse. I fell on ice last year and still feel it in my neck and upper left shoulder.

Dang brother. Don't you know we're too old to be doin that. Falls hurt a lot more than they use to.
I was constantly stopping and takin a breather and prayin at the same time the whole time I was shovelin snow.
I truly thank the LORD that I didn't have any accidents, falls or injuries. Except 1 tiny little blister on 1 finger after 23 hours of shovelin snow. Plus a 4 hour drive on each end of the trip.
Two different times recently my back went out just bendin over to pick something up and it takes over a week for it to stop hurtin.
You can't make me believe that prayer doesn't work.
No ill affects from all that work. Coincidence? I don't think so.

I hope you are ok, Ben. Seems like the landings hurt more as we get older. Maybe a heating pad will help loosen up your back. Stay safe.

What Jer said. We don't bounce like we did in our 20s. Might try topical CBD and/or Arnica, a tub soak with Epsom salts helps too.

Well, at our age falls are to be expected. But they are always unexpected! I tell folks that playing football in high school trained me how to fall. I just wish it had trained me more on when to expect those falls.

Now we are living in this Independent Living facility, we are issued a little electronic device to wear around our necks to call for help when we cannot get up. I have only fallen once here and fortunately the EMS came quickly. In fact, I see them here regularly, I do not know whether those are for a resident falling, or other medical needs.

I do not know if this affects others on Fishing Forum, but since I am also diabetic, I have a lot less feeling in my toes and feet, making it much easier to stumble, trip, of just crash!
I have also found because of that, wearing my cowboy boots is a decision I think carefully about, because they aren't as easy to get around as my mocissans are. Just Sayin...RJS

Ben you forgot one thing in your story. Did you look around to see if anyone saw you go down?

Sometimes just got to laugh those Sh** happens episodes off and chalk it up wont do that again.

Glad you are okay Ben, prayer list is long enough for awhile.

Glad your OK Ben! Any fall at all takes you by surprise, and as has been mentioned, we are losing some of our resiliency as time goes by.

A couple of Winters ago I slipped and fell straight down going backwards as I was horsing around a mule of an Ariens snow blower. I was in too much of a hurry to use the "turtle gear", so as they say "haste makes waste". Fractured both hip bones and was very tender as the whole ordeal played thru my mind over and over again in how I could have avoided that fall! Of course I was also too lazy that morning to strap on my ice cleats for a better grip!

Needless to say I don't use that beastly blower much anymore. Now it's a 4 wheeler with a blower head on it so I can sit down!

Ben was that a 2017 F150. Mine has one. Always use it. Now hearing your story I'll make sure that I always use it. LOL

I’m a firm believer in CBD. People knock it but the stuff helps with slot of different b CB conditions . Make my own. But it’s at home and I’m out of town.

I'd throw you my jar of Bakers Best CBD and lidacaine rub but I don't think I could overhand it 20ft much less 2000 mi.

Sorry for your troubles Ben, it is amazing how much faster that ground comes up nowadays! Alternate heat and ice for 20 minutes each. I know nothing about the CBD stuff so supplement that as you see fit. Good luck!
