I like to use the adjustable Bazooka (brand name) heavy duty PVC . have never broken a rod.

Send some to where your headed. Maybe even new ones. Take reels in baggage. Just an idea. There is hard cases or can use pipe. Just needs to be within the airline rules for size specifications.

PNW. Sorry to say that broken rods have not been a problem. But, missimg rods seems to be of consern
in some small airlines. I find that FED-EX or UPS is much more reliable a way to transport your gear, as it is
not so noitaceable as other luggage. Just my experience.

Was gonna say…ship em out and they’ll be there when you arrive.

The two times I flew to Alaska, I put my 8' rods in a PVC pipe and put them in a tall locker by the entry/exit door where I could watch them. No extra charge and no problem.

Put your rods in some pvc and pack the pvc in a large duffel bag with all your other gear & clothes. You can probably get 3.5 + feet of pvc in the bag. This saves on some baggage fees

Thx for ur ideas, for me I think I’m going with shipping it via fedex. Fedex tracking system is very good and less chance of getting lost.

I’m with Fly, I took rod on plane as a carryon last time I went to Hawaii. Stewardess put it in a closet by the exit door and handed it to me when departing. Was no extra charge on the trip, but rules may change anytime. I put the reel and tackle in my checked bag.
