Can't help on what's biting but check with FWC. They sent out a notice about opening and closing of certain fish starting Jan. 1st.

Down here in the gulf we have to run 50 miles to get decent red grouper and we’re right around 99 ft of water , to me 50 miles in open water is off shore

A lot of people ( me included ) think they should change the definition. I also have to run out 40 miles to get to that depth. My opinion it inshore should be state waters ( three miles out ). Just saying. But the definition says 30 meters, 98.4252ft.

I know it’s foolish to call that inshore, but it is what it is wish we didn’t have to run that far really got to pick your days as you know

There not around where I’m located , new port Richey , Florida to the best of my knowledge there more towards Louisiana still the gulf but a long ways from me we have good areas with plenty of red grouper at about 45 to 55 miles and good red snapper fishing in those same areas the gang grouper just closed jan 1 they are only 20 to 30 mile run . We have black fin tuna , mahi, king fish is good but it’s not the Atlantic

We can usually limit out on red grouper and a lot of lane and vermilion snapper mixed in with some nice big mangrove snapper you just need the day to run the fifty miles you know how that is nice talking to you good luck this year
