Wondering a few things about leader line and main line

So as of right now I've been using just 15 lb mono line on my 7' rod for intercostal fishing and its been working good, would i need to get leader line? And if so how much stronger line should I get if I do decide

2nd question is that I'm planning on getting a surf rod and was wondering what type of line # should I get and what material (braid, mono, fluro) I've only used mono

If some one wants to explain the different types of material line and leader line and how they work that would be awesome !

Where do I start... Braid is woven Kevlar which is why it is so strong for its size. Flouro is much harder to see under water than mono but both are pretty similar. This inshore setup is fine without a leader. When it is time to change the 15# mono you can go to a 20# braid. This will add between 35 and 40% more line to your reel and also add some strength. Better for that big one. You need to learn how to tie a leader to braid. There are lots of videos on YouTube for this. I have recently switch to tying two clinch knots from a surgeons knot to joint braid to flouro. Flouro is harder for fish to see in clear water. If you are fishing muddy creeks it is ok to use mono. Both flouro and mono leader is larger in diameter than regular line of the same weight so it is more abrasion resistant. As far a surf fishing I use the same line. Power Pro 20 and 20 pound flouro leader from Walmart. I use a Daiwa BG 4000, 5000 and a Penn Spinnfisher 5500. All have the same line. The rods are Ugly Stick Big Water 12 foot, Ugly Stick Big Water 10 foot and an Okuma Rockaway 12 foot. My favorite is the Daiwa BG 5000 on the Okuma Rockaway. I have all these things on my website Ameliafishbites.com There are some articles that you may fish helpful under "how to" and "surf fishing".

Thanks Jack, this is the kind of response that's invaluable to novice saltwater fishermen like me. Unfortunately, too many times guys get a little too "helpful (?)" and respond to requests for assistance with strange replies. Your answer is right on the money and worth a dozen blurbs like, "Sorry, I only fish fresh water at "lake-so-and-so" in middle-America, USA.😂🤣😃". When the request is for help for Salt Water line and leader. It makes a world of difference to be able to read an answer that responds directly to a specific question instead of reasons why the question(s) can't be answered (Or is it Just Me)?
