I’m gonna share my preference on this.
Would like to hear y’all’s opinion .
Personal choice I get that , but I’d like to share my thoughts.
I snap my seatbelt before starting my truck . Every time and I insist my passengers do the same.
I also put on my PFD before or immediately after getting in my boat.
I got a mustang survival auto inflate that is so comfortable , I have forgotten I’m wearing it and went into convenience stores before I realized I forgot to take it off.
No wonder everyone looks at me like a jerk. !
Anyway, I had a stroke 8 years ago. Could have another but my contributing conditions Ie. blood pressure , cholesterol and blood sugar are right where me and doc want them .
I’m aware that PFDs can and do save lives , but if something goes real bad while I’m on some lake, I’d like for em to recover my body.
Owe that to the wife.
I encourage everyone to wear a PFD while underway definitely , lots of guys take em off while drifting or in the trolling motor.
OK , I get that , but if your wearing one you forget you have on …
Kids , I think it’s just not right to let kids boat without PFDs on at all times.
PFDs are designed to help reduce likelihood of a catastrophe.
I talked to a coast guard skipper on Detroit river last spring ,
I asked him about a rumor I heard . And he confirmed. A very large percentage of drownings involve a dead guy with his fly unzipped.
Pissin off the back of the boat ,
Slipped and drowned.
Wearing a big clunky PFD sux . I get it. There are fairly affordable
Very comfortable vests out there.
Those are my thoughts.
Let’s hear your opinions.
When I'm alone it's a no brainer... I do forgo if I have competent company and the weather is in favor. When it's cold they are actully pretty thermal. Kid's have them on before they get in my boat and yes they keep them on. I sometime feel bad when the temp is up there. I just purchased some adult size inflatables and have yet to see just how comfortable they are. Might change my position on keeping one on no matter what.

You make some very good points. Thanks Ben

Better to wear it and not need it then need it and not have it.
Cold weather I wear one all the time in the boat. The rest of the year? Haven't found one that looks good on me when I'm wearing my speedo!
I have a Mustang. I used a GC at Cabelas and I paid the rest out of pocket. I don’t wear it enough though. I always require kids to wear them. I should make it a New Years resolution to wear it. My only fear is that it’s automatic and wonder if it will inflate.
I very much agree with you BB when I’m in my Boat as soon as I and whoever else is with me I and them have our PFD on I do tend to remove it once I get to where I’m going and start to fish 🎣 but I do make it a point to always have it on when moving across open water or on rough water 💦 I think everyone should keep it a practice to wear a PFD while Boat is in motion

Now that a visual I’d rather not view. Love your sense of humor Jeremy. As far as the PFD’s go, I usually don’t wear them but your post Ben has inspired me to do so. Thanks.

Just like concealed carry Larry. 👍🤞
I need to pick up some of the Mustang style units for my boat. I wear a vest style when in my kayak and have these handy for all when in the boat. Apparently as I age, I am not getting any more coordinated, nor stable…so it is time to upgrade to something I wear all the time. Thanks for the reminder!
I never wore them till I had to before. Now older n not positive about my ability to get back in my boat if I fell out. I have auto inflate n I wear it as long as I'm on the water. Promised Bug I'd stay as safe as possible. I also attach my kill switch lanyard when running. Stay safe out there everyone. 👍👍
